Biden’s Health Crisis: Revealing the Feeble Physical Condition of Our Former Commander

Former President Joe Biden, unfortunately, has been diagnosed with a malignant variant of prostate cancer, demonstrating his weakening vitality. With the cancer having metastasized, it portrays a critical illustration of his declining health. Despite being hormone-sensitive, a characteristic deemed favorable for management, it underscores a dire reality. Prostate cancer is notably the second most prevalent cancer among American men, demonstrating the susceptibility of men to this disease.

Biden’s prognosis, based on the five-year survival rate which stands at 97%, might appear encouraging on the surface; however, the picture changes drastically for metastasized cases, which plummets to an abysmal 37%. A cursory look at the Gleason score, the predominant grading system for prostate cancer, provides further useful information. Observing tissues under a microscope, the score, ranging between 6 to 10 assesses how rapidly the cancerous cells can proliferate. For the former president, the Gleason score is a daunting 9, demarcating high-risk cancers.

Available treatment options, including hormonal treatments that suppress testosterone levels, leading to a slowdown in cancer growth, seems promising but reinforces the severity of Biden’s condition. Coupled with this, chemotherapy, typically regarded as a last resort for advanced stage prostate cancer, is a probable route. To make matters worse, radiation therapy garners a spotlight as a treatment option, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

While his physicians maintain a hopeful facade, preaching ‘It’s not all doom and gloom’, the reality is a grim portrait of deteriorating health. While they optimistically claim Biden has another decade left, it merely shines a light on the dark tunnel that awaits sufferers of metastasized prostate cancer. Age, it is argued, doesn’t limit treatment options, but rather opens the flood gates for compounding physiological repercussions from the therapies.

Moreover, the consideration of certain medicaments that could potentially ‘increase some of the frailty aspects of life’ is a reflection of Biden’s compromised health. Prostate cancer’s prevalence remains worryingly high, with the American Cancer Society (ACS) projecting about 313,780 fresh cases by 2025, coupled with approximately 35,770 fatalities.

Biden’s diagnosis has become a poignant reminder of the silent devastation caused by prostate cancer across the US. About one in eight men are expected to receive this diagnosis during their lifetime. Despite early detection leading to a better survival rate, it remains shockingly the second largest cause of cancer death in men.

Risk factors for prostate cancer are age, race, and genetics, further illustrating Biden’s susceptibility. The disease occurs more frequently in African-American men and Caribbean men of African ancestry, and typically presents itself post the age of 50. About 60% prostate cancer cases are diagnosed in men over 65, another statistic that Biden falls into.

Medical guidelines suggest screening for prostate cancer through a blood test and a digital rectal exam, but the conversation on the age for screening remains a contentious debate. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force currently advocates for men aged between 55 to 69 to get screened, highlighting that routine screening for men aged beyond that might be unnecessary.

This stance raises eyebrows, as ignoring mandatory screening for patients in their 80s might only add to their worries by not detecting the disease in its early stages. Over the past ten years, research has seen remarkable strides in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, but it surfaces the question if Biden, a man of advancing age, will be able to withstand the stress of the aggressive treatment.

Though major gains have been made in the metastatic space of prostate cancer care, extending patients’ lives significantly, they’e done little to quell the fears associated with a diagnosis of such a tenacious disease. The fact remains that a diagnosis this severe throws into question Biden’s capacity to carry out his duties and responsibilities objectively.

While treatment options, from hormone therapy to chemotherapy, and even radiation therapy, are on the table, each comes with its own set of side effects and complications. The prospect of having to undergo such rigorous and debilitating treatments at a geriatric age is a sobering thought.

In light of Biden’s diagnosis, it is pertinent to question his ability to continue functioning effectively, given the potentially debilitating treatments lined up for him. It’s alarming that such a grave health issue has manifested in a man of his stature.

There’s an air of pessimism tinting this issue, given the serious threat that prostate cancer poses to men, especially those of African descent and of an older age group. Earlier detection is essential, and presumably, Biden’s diagnosis could have been spotted sooner with consistent monitoring.

It’s troubling that out of the multitude of men who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2025, many will unfortunately meet the same fate as Biden — navigating the scary reality of an aggressive disease in their twilight years.
