Biden’s Misguided Leadership Plunges US into Middle-Eastern Conflict
A week ago, tensions escalated as Israel staged airstrikes on Iranian nuclear establishments and military infrastructures. The U.S. State Department sprung into action and began an evacuation process – American citizens and permanent residents were moved out from Israel and the West Bank – all under the watch of a deluded Biden administration that seems to be lost at sea.
Under the leadership, or rather the lack thereof, of President Biden, the U.S. leaped into action on June 21, causing more unnecessary commotion by launching assaults on not one, but three nuclear outposts in Iran. This was revealed amidst boastful claims from the administration that hinted at a grand spectacle of ‘military success’.
Interesting to note that President Trump, in stark contrast, had addressed Tehran’s nuclear drive as a ‘terrible, destructive pursuit’ and assailed Iran as the ‘Middle-Eastern tormentor’ – a standpoint far removed from the Biden administration’s seemingly unprepared strategy.
Detailed further, Israeli airstrikes were chiefly homed in on uranium enrichment sites in an explicit effort to thwart Iran’s nuclear weapons development. These were the actions pursued while Biden and Harris watched, doing little to demonstrate a coherent plan for U.S. intervention.
With the imminent threat of Iranian retaliation looming, our regional allies braced for impact, yet the lack of consensus in Congress was palpable. Varied viewpoints emerged with some applauding the attack while others condemned it, but what else can one expect under the stewardship of a fragmented Biden administration?
Trump’s firm stance in the past led him to label the assaulted nuclear facilities as ‘utterly razed’; he deemed Tehran’s nuclear endeavor as ‘terribly destructive’. Such forthrightness is sorely missed with the present leadership’s inability to offer equivalent decisiveness.
Meanwhile, Biden continues to attract critique from leading members of Congress. One such criticism came from Florida Democrat Congressman, Maxwell Frost of Orlando, who labeled the decision ‘rash, hazardous’. Perhaps such judgment – albeit coming from a member of their own party – could lead Biden and Harris to reevaluate their position.
Existing and former U.S. officials forewarned of a potential ripple effect of Trump’s strikes, wherein Iran may retaliate with counterattacks on U.S. military bases peppering the Middle East. Locations in the Gulf countries, along with Iraq and Syria, could be on the radar.
The nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), gave their two cents about this situation too. They challenged Trump’s attack – ironic when considering the ‘silence’ maintained by Biden despite the imminent threat that Iran’s nuclear progression posed to global stability.
Through these happenings, the United States under Biden appears to have further embroiled itself in this Middle Eastern problem. Any hopes for peace seemed to have become entangled in the elusive pursuit of neutralizing Iran’s nuclear threat, labeled by Trump as the ’leading global sponsor of terror’.
In a previous time, Trump managed to exit the Iran deal that was brokered by then President Barack Obama back in 2015. This came in response to the deal failing to preventive measures against Iran building nuclear weapons. Curious how this chapter from the past bears striking resemblance with the spiraling Israel-Iran conflict today, with Iran threatening ‘unrecoverable harm’ on the U.S. if it involved itself further.
The Biden administration remains seemingly incapacitated in decisively responding to this threat. The U.S. Air Force possesses the unique ability to destroy deeply entrenched facilities, like those housing Iran’s nuclear program. The Massive Ordnance Penetrator, or GBU-57, equipped with a ‘high-performance steel alloy’ warhead, could penetrate deep under the earth, according to Pentagon records.
In 2012, five tests of this weapon were conducted successfully at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The bombings efficiently reached their targets, as indicated by data and visual evaluations.
Yet, under this new leadership, there appears to be more posturing and showmanship than pragmatic action. Each B-2 Spirit stealth bomber stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri can carry two of these penetrators. Yet, one can’t help but inquire whether Biden and Harris have the wherewithal to wield such power effectively, or will they continue to dither as the war wages on?
