The chairman of Vista Del Mar has attributed the decision to sell this prime land – under the company’s possession since 1928 – to the escalating significance of the port in the industrial landscape. In 2020, the port showcased its substantial handling capacity, with approximately 1.1 million metric tons of cargo traversing this bustling trade channel. SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, intends to integrate its Starbase complex into a corporate town. The townscape includes pre-assembled residences capable of accommodating an estimated 500 residents, primarily consisting of SpaceX employees and their families.

There are currently legislative movements that could potentially empower the private town’s commissioners to intermittently limit public access to the beach during the week. This action would be carried out specifically in conjunction with space launch events, all part of the broader infrastructure and utilization strategy of the burgeoning Starbase complex.

Recent developments have seen Tesla ink an expensive $1.6 billion deal with tech giant Samsung. Under this agreement, Samsung will construct a state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facility in Taylor, a suburban town not far from Austin.
