A man from Chicago named Ivory Edward Warren, aged 48, was found guilty on multiple charges by a Linn County jury last Friday. The ordeal was related to an unfortunate incidence of robbery which had occurred in the garage of a couple on the second of July, 2024. After the incident, Warren had made an attempt to flee the scene, however, led to a crash, finding his vehicle in a creek bed.
The jury spent about three days going through accounts and testimonies before reaching a decision. His crimes included two counts of first-degree robbery, the first-degree theft specifically targeting an elder citizen, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and found in possession of illegal drug paraphernalia.
Warren now stares at a potential punishment of up to 75 years in prison for his reckless actions. The sentence includes a mandatory minimum period of 35 years in prison before he can qualify for parole.
On the morning of July 2, 2024, around 9:04 a.m., the Marion Police Department received a triggering call. The complaint was about an armed robbery taking place at a residence in their jurisdiction.
The victims of the robbery were Janet and Steven Schroeder who reported that the criminal had invaded their garage. They recalled the terrifying moment when the assailant, whom they later recognized as Warren, brandished a weapon, they believed to be a gun, making demands for valuable items and cash.
According to their statement, Warren forcefully took Janet Schroeder’s designer crossbody purse from her, pushing her onto the ground to get it. He didn’t stop at that – he targeted Steven Schroeder next, demanding his wallet before making a hasty exit.
Warren was seen speeding away from the crime scene in a white sports utility vehicle, leaving the victims both bewildered and terrified.
While the police were en route to investigate the robbery, another emergency call came in. The second call indicated a road accident involving a white SUV, coincidentally matching the description given by the Schroeders. The accident had occurred at the crossroads of Charter Oak Lane and Northridge Point SE – a mere stone’s throw away from the reported incident.
On arriving at the accident spot, police discovered that it was indeed Warren who was in the accident. He was recognized by onlookers who verified him as the alleged robber.
The authorities were able to recover some stolen items from the site of the crash, after his vehicle had been pulled from the creek. Among the retrieved items, there was a BB gun which had a black handle and a silver slide, posssibly the ‘weapon’ Warren had used during the robbery.
Janet Schroeder, who was 69 during the incident, had a particularly distressing morning. She was about to leave to receive medical treatment when the bizarre series of incidents unfolded. The forced confrontation with Warren and the subsequent robbery led to a tremendous upheaval in the couple’s morning routine.
Although the guilty verdict has been passed on Warren, sentencing is yet to be determined. For now, it appears justice is being served incrementally in this harrowing story.
