Chicago Schools Stay Silent on Lucy Martinez, Teacher Who Mocked Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

Four days after a Chicago elementary school teacher was caught on camera mimicking the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has yet to publicly condemn the act or announce any disciplinary action.

The incident took place during the “No Kings” protest in downtown Chicago, where Lucy Martinez, a STEM teacher at Nathan Hale Elementary, pointed an imaginary gun to her neck and shouted “Bang, bang” toward a Kirk supporter—mocking Kirk’s tragic death during a July rally in Utah.

The video quickly went viral, sparking outrage across social media. Many demanded her immediate firing, accusing CPS of allowing educators to openly endorse political violence. Education Secretary Linda McMahon weighed in, posting on X, “Teachers are entrusted to educate the next generation of American students by modeling respect and integrity. No child should be trapped in a government-run school with a teacher who celebrates murder.”

But instead of publicly reprimanding Martinez or condemning the act, school officials focused on concerns for the teacher’s safety. In a letter to parents on Sunday, Principal Dawn Iles-Gomez framed the situation as a security issue.

“Dear Hale Parents and Staff,” the letter read, “Safety continues to be my top priority… We were recently made aware of social media posts with language that resemble a potential threat to a staff member.”

The district has remained tight-lipped. In a vague statement to Fox News Digital, CPS said it is “committed to creating and maintaining a welcoming, safe, and inclusive teaching and learning environment” but added, “CPS does not comment on specific personnel matters.”

No apology has been issued. No condemnation of political violence. No confirmation of whether Martinez has faced any consequences for her actions.

Andrew Kolvet, spokesperson for Turning Point USA, posted what he claimed was a screenshot of a school email from Principal Iles-Gomez, suggesting that the administration was treating Martinez as a victim. “No mention of the behavior. No accountability. Just a lot of handwringing about her safety,” Kolvet wrote.

Meanwhile, in a separate but equally disturbing incident during the same protest, a man employed by the City Colleges of Chicago was caught on video through a bullhorn encouraging violence against ICE agents. The school system quickly confirmed on Monday that the individual “no longer” works there.

“Our college system does not tolerate violence or incitement under any circumstances,” a spokesperson said.

For critics, the disparity in how the two cases were handled is glaring. The City Colleges employee was swiftly fired, while Martinez remains employed with no transparency on the district’s response. The silence has only fueled speculation that political double standards are at play inside America’s third-largest school district.

As of Thursday, Charlie Kirk’s family, Turning Point USA, and thousands of concerned parents are still waiting for CPS to take a stand against political violence in the classroom.
