College Campuses Emerging as Breeding Ground for Extremist Ideologies

A worrisome trend backing terroristic ideologies has recently taken root in college campuses, proliferating primarily after October 7, 2023. Instead of condemning this alarming development, it appears that some Democrats have shown an implicit endorsement for the movement. This is evident in the multiple campus rallies demanding a second intifada and considerable marches witnessed in various locations such as New York City, Washington, D.C., among others. These gatherings often teem with protesters criticizing American policies, openly waving the flags of Hamas.

Devastatingly, these ideological shifts have led to bloodshed. A tragic incident unfolded in the heart of the nation’s capital where Sarah Milgrim, an American Jew, and her fiancé Yaron Lischinsky, a German Christian, fell victim to fatal gun shots by a left-wing extremist. This assailant did so under the guise of ‘liberating Palestine.’ Despite Sarah’s desperate attempt to flee, the attacker cold-bloodedly shot her at the back, thereby carrying out an execution.

The disturbing saga continued the following weekend in Boulder, Colorado. At a peaceful gathering where American citizens were exercising their First Amendment rights by marching on behalf of hostages, potential harm was inflicted by an unauthorized foreign national. Egyptian national Mohamed Soliman seemingly planned to assault peaceful Americans on their own soil.

Reacting to this brazen act, the Trump administration acted immediately, putting measures in place to preserve the national order. The Department of Justice acted swiftly, charging Soliman with a federal hate crime to ensure that he would not be released from a local detention center. Simultaneously, the Department of Homeland Security took steps to detain and schedule the immediate deportation of Soliman’s kin, who were all residing in the country illegally.

However, the reaction from some quarters of the political left and their media allies paints a worrying picture. Interestingly, they appeared to elicit sympathy for the wrong party involved. An article published by USA Today did not mention in its lede that Soliman’s family were residing in the country unlawfully, having overstayed their visas. It also didn’t inform readers that the family’s patriarch was involved in serious crimes of violence such as using homemade explosives against Americans.

The situation further deteriorated when a federal judge blocked the planned deportations, a move that drew increasing criticism. Critics argued that the deportation wasn’t unwarranted or hastily planned; rather, it was a necessary response to grave offenses including attempted murder, illegal visa overstays, and the propagation of harmful, anti-Western ideologies by foreign nationals.

Pundits argue that the American public should be the ones seeking protection from potential threats such as Soliman and his family. They believe it is unfair for citizens to become victims because political leaders are seemingly unable to discern between acceptable and deplorable actions.

A grim reminder of the dire consequences of these ideologies is the horrifying attack on October 7, 2023, in which 45 innocent Americans lost their lives to Hamas terrorists. It seems apparent that some Western sympathizers of these extremists have failed to take any discernible measures to prevent more such calamities from happening on American soil.

The wider implications of the political discourse are clear-cut. Trump’s officials are striding towards effective measures to halt terrorism. On the contrary, it seems that their Democrat counterparts are perceived as playing a game of chance with the nation’s safety.
