One can glean a considerable amount of information from two recent publications, Fight and Original Sin, both of which delve into the circumstances leading to the unfortunate defeat of the Democratic Party in the 2024 elections. These riveting books provide compelling evidence of President Joe Biden’s physical and mental deterioration, painting a chilling picture that the mainstream media and many Democratic politicians conveniently chose to overlook.
Despite the information divulged in these publications, there are several loose ends that remain. The first question that arises is why the mainstream media and Democratic politicians chose to back an evidently incapacitated president. Even after his disastrous performance at the June 2024 debate, Biden’s support remained strong, which subsequently led to his resignation from the 2024 campaign. This leads to the second lingering question on the depths of this cover-up that the Democratic party managed to orchestrate so efficiently.
Notably, California politicians spearheaded this grand deception, consistently feeding the public a warped image of Biden to pacify an increasingly despondent Democratic base. These politicians saw an opportunity to vilify the Republicans who dared to point out Biden’s physical stumbles and cognitive errors, thereby clouding the reality of Biden’s condition.
Among these ‘leaders’ of contention was Gavin Newsom, the governor of California who was renowned for his unwavering support for Biden. Newsom served as a Biden advocate on both state and national levels, tirelessly defending against Republican and conservative media’s attacks pointing out Biden’s cognitive and physical frailty.
Even as Biden’s condition worsened, Newsom was undeterred. On July 19, 2024, a mere two days before Biden announced his withdrawal from running for a second term, Newsom boldly declared his steadfast support: ‘I am in [supporting Joe Biden], no daylight.’ Newsom’s dismissing of Biden’s evident decline is a testament to his relentless loyalty, misguided though it may have been.
Then, there was Adam Schiff, a man who blatantly criticized the response to Biden’s uninspiring deposition, choosing to defend a seemingly disoriented leader instead. His peculiar reasoning was that Biden’s age and poor memory were justification enough to not prosecute the President. With the revelation of full audio tapes, it is now abundantly clear that Biden was and continues to be befuddled and easily confused. However, these glaring facts weren’t enough to deter Schiff from launching an all-out attack in defense of Biden.
Only when Biden’s blunders could no longer be swept under the rug did Schiff finally acknowledge them, publicly expressing his serious doubts about Biden’s capability to beat Donald Trump in the November elections. The late admission of Schiff seems more of an attempt at damage control than a genuine concern for his party and the future of the nation.
Predictably, Kamala Harris, then Vice President, doggedly defended Biden, despite whispers of concern about her own political viability in the Biden Administration. Consistently, she claimed that Biden was as ‘sharp as a tack, fit as a fiddle,’ painting a deceptive picture of a capable leader, ready for a second term.
Even when Biden had officially withdrawn from the race, Harris insisted that she harbored ‘no regrets’ over defending the President’s cognitive abilities. Regardless of her future ambitions, be it a run for governorship or the presidency, questions remain about what she knew and when she knew it concerning Biden’s condition. Harris’s political standing seems to hang in the balance until these queries are satisfactorily answered.
A cursory examination of other Californian Democratic Congress members backed up this pattern of deceptive endeavor. Notable figures, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, touted phrases such as, ‘We must re-elect Joe Biden’ and ‘It’s up to the president to decide whether he stays in the race,’ illustrating a concentrated effort to mislead the public about the reality of Biden’s fitness for re-election.
Representative Eric Swalwell also chimed in, exalting Biden’s memory which he claimed could put many people ‘to shame,’ further shining a light on the far-reaching scope of this cover-up. These persistent statements of support illustrate a dedicated effort to keep the illusion of Biden’s competency alive and further entrench the electorate in deception.
The Democrats of today work incessantly to distract, constantly claiming to be ‘looking forward’ while simultaneously launching relentless salvos against anything related to Trump. However, they neglect to address the elephant in the room – the relentless cover-up of their incapacitated leader that ran unchecked for years.
How can the American public put faith in a party that refutes accountability and shies away from self-examination? The Democratic Party needs to address their internal issues and understand the enormity of the deception they allowed, in order to regain the trust they have so visibly lost.
Yes, moving forward is important. But a future built on the shaky foundations of deceit and denial is bound to crumble. The Democratic Party must take responsibility for their role in this grand facade, investigate its depth, and commit to transparency if they hope to once again earn the trust of the American voters.
It’s high time they answered hard questions: why did their leaders allow the cover-up of Biden’s condition to proceed for so long, unchecked? Unless they bring about a complete overhaul in their approach, it’s hard to see how the Democrats can rebuild their eroded trust with the American public.
A truly democratic institution embraces accountability, transparency, and truth. So, it falls to the Democratic Party now to take these steps, prove their commitment to these principles, and show the American people that they’re capable of learning from their past mistakes, and capable of sincere, effective leadership.
