Dodgers Visit Trump at the White House After World Series Win: “A Team of Champions”
President Donald Trump welcomed the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers to the White House this week, celebrating their 2024 victory over the New York Yankees in a ceremony filled with admiration, humor, and a few signature Trump-style jabs.
The event, held on the South Lawn, honored the team’s exceptional season and gave Trump a chance to commend some of the Dodgers’ standout players—most notably superstar Shohei Ohtani, who made baseball history by becoming the first player ever to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season.
Trump praised Ohtani with characteristic flair, calling him “a movie star” and telling the crowd, “He’s got a great future. What a season. Just incredible.”
The President also gave a nod to outfielder Mookie Betts, throwing a light-hearted jab at Betts’ former team, the Boston Red Sox, for trading him away. “I didn’t think that was a particularly good trade when they made it,” Trump said, grinning. “And I happened to be right.”
Pitcher Clayton Kershaw and team owner Mark Walter presented Trump with a personalized Dodgers jersey, and Kershaw spoke briefly, expressing pride in the team’s unity and their hard-fought path to the championship.
The visit was part celebration, part tradition, and full Trump. At one point, the President opted not to introduce certain senators in attendance, joking, “I just don’t particularly like them, so I won’t introduce them.” The comment drew laughter from the team and guests, underscoring Trump’s unapologetic approach to politics, even during a sports event.
This marks the Dodgers’ second visit to the White House under Trump, following their 2020 World Series title. Once again, the team chose to embrace the tradition of honoring their achievement in the nation’s capital, and Trump used the moment to highlight what he called “an incredible organization filled with winners.”
“This team represents greatness,” Trump said. “They’ve shown the country what hard work, talent, and teamwork can accomplish. They’re champions—and we’re proud to celebrate them here.”
The event concluded with photos, cheers, and high spirits, as America’s pastime met presidential recognition in a celebration of victory, unity, and excellence on the diamond.
