Dr. Ben Carson Sworn In As Trump’s National Advisor for Nutrition, Health, and Housing
Dr. Ben Carson has officially returned to federal service under President Donald Trump, taking on a new role as the national advisor for nutrition, health, and housing at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Carson, who served as HUD Secretary during Trump’s first term, was sworn in Wednesday. His new post will position him at the center of some of the administration’s most ambitious public health and rural development initiatives.
“As National Advisor for Nutrition, Health, and Housing, Dr. Carson will advise both President Trump and Secretary Rollins on policies related to nutrition, rural healthcare quality, and housing accessibility,” the USDA announced in a statement. “He will serve as the Department’s chief voice on these matters, join Secretary Rollins for her work on the President’s Make America Healthy Again Commission, and partner closely with leadership in USDA’s Rural Development Mission Area.”
Carson, known for his soft-spoken demeanor and deep Christian faith, said this role is about improving lives through practical, common-sense policies. “Today, too many Americans are suffering from the effects of poor nutrition. Through common-sense policymaking, we have an opportunity to give our most vulnerable families the tools they need to flourish,” he said. “I am honored to work with Secretary Rollins on these important initiatives to help fulfill President Trump’s vision for a healthier, stronger America.”
Earlier this year, Trump also tapped Carson to serve as vice chair of the newly formed Religious Liberty Commission. And during a speech at the American Cornerstone Institute’s Founders’ Dinner on Saturday, the president announced that Carson would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom once again — this time under Trump.
Carson previously received the nation’s highest civilian honor in 2008 from President George W. Bush. Now, Trump plans to bring him back to the White House for another ceremony recognizing his service and impact on American life.
Carson founded the American Cornerstone Institute to promote the values he’s long championed: faith, liberty, community, and life. Now back in government, he’s aiming to put those principles into action across the nation’s health and housing policy.
