Elon Musk Calls Out Kamala Harris Over Trump Ban Hypocrisy Amid Kimmel Censorship Outcry
Elon Musk is highlighting what he sees as blatant hypocrisy from former Vice President Kamala Harris, who is now criticizing the Trump administration over the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s show—despite her own history of calling for censorship.
On Friday, Musk reposted a 2019 tweet in which then-Senator Harris demanded that Twitter suspend President Donald Trump. Musk, who now owns the platform, added a thinking face emoji to the resurfaced post, indirectly calling out Harris for suddenly defending “free speech” when it comes to late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel.
The reposted tweet from Harris read:
“Look let’s be honest, @realDonaldTrump’s Twitter account should be suspended.”

Her resurfaced tweet has gained new relevance following Harris’ fiery defense of Kimmel, whose show was pulled off the air indefinitely by ABC after he spread misinformation about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
Kimmel Fallout Sparks Speech Debate
In a now-infamous broadcast, Kimmel falsely claimed the shooter who killed Charlie Kirk was part of the “MAGA gang” — a statement that drew widespread condemnation and was contradicted by prosecutors in the case. The backlash prompted ABC affiliates like Nexstar and Sinclair to stop carrying “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” citing concerns over accuracy and public interest.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr defended the move, saying, “Broadcasters are different than any other form of communication,” and emphasized that local stations acted within their rights to “serve the interests of their community.”
Senator Ted Cruz warned that such decisions, even if aimed at correcting lies, could set a dangerous precedent. “He was lying, and lying to the American people is not in the public interest,” Cruz said. “But if conservatives cheer this on, we will regret it.”
White House Denies Involvement, But Questions Remain
Despite Harris’ accusations of political retaliation, the White House maintains it had nothing to do with the Kimmel suspension. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News, “The decision to fire Jimmy Kimmel and to cancel his show came from executives at ABC… there was no pressure given from the president of the United States.”
Still, questions linger about government influence over media and speech. The Biden-Harris administration faced similar accusations during the pandemic, particularly after it admitted to “flagging problematic posts” on Facebook.
In 2024, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that the administration pressured Facebook to suppress certain content, revealing in a letter to Rep. Jim Jordan that the White House made direct requests to censor Americans online.
Musk’s Free Speech Crusade Continues
Elon Musk’s post isn’t just a dig at Harris—it’s part of a broader pushback against what he calls selective censorship. Since taking over X (formerly Twitter), Musk has positioned himself as a champion of free speech, frequently criticizing government attempts to influence online platforms.
By highlighting Harris’ call to ban Trump and contrasting it with her current defense of Kimmel, Musk has reignited the debate over who really supports free expression—and when.
