Jerson Lopez-Sanchez, 28, is charged with three counts of assaulting or resisting federal officers. The FBI confirmed he remains at large and has announced a $15,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction.
The incident occurred on December 1 after ICE agents conducted a registration check on a Chevrolet Silverado carrying five occupants in the Dallas area. Agents determined that Lopez-Sanchez was unlawfully present in the United States and attempted to initiate a traffic stop in Lewisville, Texas.
According to the indictment, three ICE vehicles surrounded the truck when Lopez-Sanchez suddenly put the vehicle in reverse and slammed into a Jeep driven by an ICE agent. At the time of the collision, the agent reportedly had one leg outside the vehicle and was forced to jump back inside to avoid serious injury.
The impact created enough space for Lopez-Sanchez to flee, triggering a pursuit through a heavily populated area. During the chase, he allegedly rammed a second ICE vehicle, a Chrysler van, injuring an agent’s knees and neck and causing significant vehicle damage, including airbag deployment.
Prosecutors say Lopez-Sanchez “weaponized” the truck, which weighed more than 5,500 pounds, by accelerating directly into federal agents. After approximately ten minutes, he abandoned the vehicle in a median and fled on foot. Three other occupants were later apprehended, but Lopez-Sanchez escaped.
The FBI describes Lopez-Sanchez as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds, and working as a roofer.
The Department of Homeland Security says attacks on ICE agents involving vehicles have surged dramatically. From January 21, 2025, to January 7, 2026, DHS reports 66 vehicular attacks targeting ICE, compared to just two during the same period the previous year.
