A woman from Southern Florida faces an uphill battle in her journey to heal after miraculously escaping from a hazardous car crash, according to her family members. In the unexpected incident, her car was set ablaze after being hit by a motorcycle in Hollywood, happening on a Tuesday evening. The woman suffered significant burn injuries, sadly, the motorcyclist did not survive the accident. Witness footage captured Hazel Fernandez’s car being fully consumed by fire.
Fernandez, demonstrating a powerful display of resilience and courage, managed to escape from the car before the fire could claim her life. Katherine Perdomo, her niece, shared this hard-hitting tale with us. Perdomo expressed awe at her aunt’s strength and swiftness to act in such a horrifying scenario, admitting that not everyone might have the same instinct to act so quickly in such dangerous conditions.
Perdomo described the ill-fated Tuesday evening with striking detail. Fernandez was returning home from work, navigating her way at the junction of Sheridan Street and North 66th Avenue. Witnesses recounted an alarming scene where two motorcycles suddenly came into view. One of the bikes rammed into the passenger side of Fernandez’s car, triggering a disastrous chain of events.
Eyewitness reports suggest that Fernandez’s vehicle, upon impact with the motorcycle, burst into flames instantly. ‘The speed at which those motorcycles were moving was alarming, weaving in and out of the traffic recklessly,’ one of them shared. ‘Following the collision, both the motorcycle and the car were set ablaze almost instantly.’
Despite the chaotic and life-threatening situation, Fernandez demonstrated her survival instincts. Perdomo says, ‘With great difficulty, she managed to extricate herself from the burning car through the driver’s side all on her own. It was truly courageous.’
Interestingly, even in such danger, she remembered to grab her purse; she had the presence of mind to take her ID so that she could be identified if the situation turned grim. Emergency medical services promptly arrived at the scene and swiftly transported Fernandez to the nearest hospital, where she was treated for critical injuries.
‘She sustained serious burns on her face, arm, back, and a general abdominal area on the right side,’ said Perdomo. Despite these serious injuries, she shared that her aunt’s health condition is starting to improve, ‘She is definitely on a positive trajectory.’
Perdomo told us that after several days of being on a ventilator, there is now growing hope as Fernandez was no longer needing intubation. ‘We are grateful for these small victories that she’s experiencing every day,’ she shared. Her family has strong faith in her resilience and willpower, believing that her quick response was key to her survival.
Expressing her admiration for her aunt, Perdomo called Fernandez an ‘extraordinary human being’. She conveyed her heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery from this tragic incident, knowing that it would be a long, healing journey. ‘It’s going to be a long process,’ she said, recognising the obstacles ahead while harboring relentless optimism.
A somewhat miraculous detail emerged from the calamity – the passenger on the motorcycle also survived the deadly crash, adding another layer to this dramatic turn of events. However, information about the victim’s current health condition remains undisclosed, leaving a small cloud of uncertainty amid this meticulous recounting of this terrifying incident.
