Former Dulos Attorney Sentenced for Hindering Investigation
A former attorney and companion of the late Fotis Dulos, who was the estranged spouse of Jennifer Dulos, a mother of five from Connecticut, confessed to hindering law enforcement in the investigation of the case. Jennifer, who went missing in 2019, is now presumed deceased.
The individual, Kent Mawhinney, was previously facing the more grave accusation of conspiring to commit murder. The confirmation of Mawhinney’s legal status alteration was received from a judicial office assistant in Stamford.
Mawhinney was sentenced to an 11-month prison term, which in reality corresponds to the length of time he has already spent incarcerated since the moment of his apprehension.
In a public statement outside the courthouse last Friday, Mawhinney claimed ignorance regarding the current location of Jennifer Dulos. He pledged to cooperate with law enforcement and share any information, should it come to his knowledge.
Jennifer Dulos, last spotted while she was dropping off her children at a school in New Canaan on 24th May 2019, was declared deceased legally four years after her disappearance in 2023.
According to prosecution arguments, Fotis Dulos is alleged to have ended Jennifer’s life at her place in New Canaan, subsequently removing her body from the scene in his vehicle. Fotis himself passed away a year later in 2020, due to self-inflicted harm, shortly after he was indicted for murder.
Fotis Dulos had rejected any allegations of having caused his wife’s death. Circumstances surrounding the couple’s relationship indicate they were in the midst of a bitter separation at the time Jennifer went missing.
Michelle Troconis, who was in a romantic relationship with Fotis Dulos, was found guilty of assisting him in devising and concealing Jennifer Dulos’s murder in the previous year. This led to a prison sentence for Troconis, which exceeded 14 years.
Mawhinney’s legal representative, Jeffrey Kestenband, issued a statement asserting that his client was not involved in any plot to cause harm to Jennifer Dulos. Kestenband emphasized that the prosecution had conceded the absence of substantial evidence to sustain the initial charge.
The close connections of Jennifer Dulos expressed their doubts about Mawhinney being entirely exonerated of conspiracy to commit murder, through an official statement. They went on to say that the reasons behind the decision to dismiss the said charge were manifold, and they were in favor of the ruling.
