House Ethics Committee Opens Investigation Into Rep. Cory Mills Over Finance, Gifts, and Misconduct Allegations

The House Ethics Committee announced Wednesday that it has launched an official investigation into Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.), citing a wide range of serious allegations including campaign finance violations, improper gifts, and sexual misconduct.

According to the committee’s statement, an investigative subcommittee has been formed to review whether Mills violated federal campaign finance laws in connection with his 2022 and 2024 election campaigns. The panel will examine whether Mills failed to properly disclose information required on financial filings with the House.

The committee is also investigating claims that Mills improperly solicited or accepted gifts, including benefits connected to privately funded, officially related travel. Lawmakers are barred from accepting gifts that could be construed as influence or that violate House rules, especially if connected to their position or official duties.

Perhaps most serious, the panel will look into accusations that Mills engaged in sexual misconduct or dating violence. It will also examine whether he misused congressional resources or his official status for personal gain.

Mills, a freshman Republican who gained attention for his hawkish foreign policy views and pro-Trump rhetoric, has not yet responded publicly to the announcement. The Ethics Committee emphasized that the launch of an investigation does not imply a presumption of guilt.

No timeline has been given for the completion of the subcommittee’s work, but the probe now becomes one of the most high-profile ethical reviews involving a sitting member of the House in this Congress.
