House GOP Investigating Biden’s Doc, Who Said He Was ‘Fit’ To ‘Execute The Duties Of The Presidency’
House Republicans have launched an investigation into Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the physician who declared in early 2024 that then-President Joe Biden was “a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old male” fit to serve. The move comes amid growing questions about Biden’s physical and cognitive condition following revelations of advanced cancer and allegations of behind-the-scenes staff control during his final months in office.
Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is leading the charge, requesting sworn interviews with Dr. O’Connor and several senior Biden aides—including Neera Tanden, Anthony Bernal, Annie Tomasini, and Ashley Williams. Lawmakers want answers about the decision-making process behind Biden’s health assessments, the role of his inner circle, and whether key health information was hidden from the public.
Comer’s request focuses on several core issues:
-
Whether Dr. O’Connor’s assessment was influenced by his personal or financial ties to the Biden family.
-
Whether Biden was ever recommended for a cognitive exam.
-
Who authorized the use of an autopen for key presidential documents if Biden was unwell.
-
Whether aides shielded the public from evidence of Biden’s decline during critical decision-making moments.
The investigation has gained momentum following Biden’s recent announcement that he had been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer—news that blindsided many, including some in Washington. Additionally, the release of the book Original Sin has further fueled suspicions, alleging a “shadow presidency” where senior aides were effectively managing the duties of the commander-in-chief without public acknowledgment.
The White House has so far not responded to the requests, though legal experts anticipate potential claims of executive privilege. House Republicans have said they are prepared to issue subpoenas if necessary.
Supporters of the inquiry argue that the health and cognitive fitness of a sitting president is a matter of national security and public trust. Critics call the investigation politically motivated, claiming it’s part of a broader effort to discredit the Biden presidency and sow doubt heading into future elections.
Senator Ron Johnson has launched a similar probe in the Senate, signaling that this issue could become a flashpoint in upcoming hearings and campaigns. If the investigation uncovers significant inconsistencies or signs of a cover-up, it could open the door to constitutional questions about presidential capacity and the 25th Amendment.
The Oversight Committee is expected to begin interviews in June. What unfolds next could reshape how presidential health is handled, disclosed, and scrutinized moving forward.
