Over a six-day span from the 6th to the 12th of April, immigration officials carried out a massive operation aimed at combating illegal immigration. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) report that of the 206 individuals apprehended, a substantial number had extensive criminal records or are presently dealing with grave charges, ranging from murder and assault to rape and drug-related offences.
This operation, primarily carried out in New York City and its surrounding areas, resulted in the apprehension of over 200 people. Among those captured were convicted sex offenders and drug trafficking leaders. This strategy forms part of an intensified effort to tackle and suppress illegal immigration directed by President Donald Trump’s administration.
In partnership with local law enforcement, ICE concentrated its efforts on severe criminal offenders in the area of New York City. The operation was honed in on those offenders whose records were tainted by egregious offenses such as arson, illegal weapons possession, and a multitude of various serious crimes.
The individuals apprehended during this period weren’t solely those with local or national criminal histories. A foreign fugitive, sought for crimes in his homeland, was amongst those apprehended. Notably, another was an individual convicted of homicide in the Philippines, demonstrating the international scope of the operation.
Furthermore, numerous arrested individuals are suspected of having ties to international criminal groups with a known presence in the New York area. Some of the notable organizations include the infamous MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Sureños, and the 18th Street gang, further showing the severity and complexity of crimes linked to those apprehended.
In response to the operation, Mayor Eric Adams confirmed his stance on collaborating at all degrees of enforcement. His comments aimed to clear any misconception about ICE, stating unequivocally that it is a law enforcement organization, not a criminal one, deserving cooperation in the interest of public safety.
ICE’s affiliation with numerous law enforcement units was crucial to the operation. Partners spanned various federal, state, and local agencies, each contributing a unique skill set and jurisdictional authority. The collaborative units included the FBI, DEA, ATF, and USMC in New York, along with the Diplomatic Security Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.

The operation’s main objective was to weed out the most dangerous foreign offenders residing in some of the most crime-prone neighborhoods in and around New York City. Under that mandate, it targeted the worst of the worst and took a no-nonsense approach to enhancing the safety of New York’s residents.
