Illegal Immigrant Released by Biden Kills Three in California Truck Crash, Sparks National Outrage
A 21-year-old Indian national who entered the United States illegally and was later released by the Biden administration is now at the center of a deadly crash that killed three people in California. Authorities say Jashanpreet Singh, the driver of the semi-truck responsible for the fatal pile-up, was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
The deadly incident unfolded in Ontario, California, when Singh’s semi slammed into slowed traffic on a freeway, triggering an eight-vehicle wreck that left three dead and four others injured. He was arrested Tuesday by the California Highway Patrol and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. Singh remains in custody without bail and is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
Officials confirmed that Singh illegally crossed the southern border in March 2022, where he was apprehended by Border Patrol agents. Rather than being deported, Singh was released into the country pending a court hearing — part of the Biden administration’s catch-and-release approach that has come under fire in recent months.
Biden’s Border Policy Under Fire
The tragedy has reignited criticism of the administration’s lax immigration enforcement, with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy pointing to the crash as a direct result of failed state and federal oversight. Duffy posted dashcam footage of the crash on X and reminded the public that his department withheld $40 million from California over its noncompliance with federal safety standards.
“This is exactly why [DOT] withheld $40 MILLION from California for failure to comply with our rules to protect drivers,” Duffy wrote. “We cannot allow our roads to be a dangerous place!”
Duffy also cited an ongoing federal investigation revealing that California has allowed commercial truck drivers to remain licensed despite documented English proficiency violations in other states. From June 25 to August 21, at least 23 such drivers remained on the road in California, in violation of federal law.
Pattern of Carnage
Singh’s case isn’t isolated. Just this week, ICE lodged a detainer against Borko Stankovic, an illegal immigrant from Serbia and Montenegro who allegedly killed a man in Indiana while driving a semi-truck without a valid commercial license. Jeffrey Eberly, 54, died in that crash after Stankovic reportedly swerved into oncoming traffic.
And last month in Florida, an illegal immigrant from India was arrested for allegedly causing a crash that killed three people after making an illegal U-turn on the state turnpike. In response, Florida filed suit against California for issuing commercial licenses to illegals, accusing the Golden State of endangering American lives for the sake of leftist immigration policies.
Trump Admin Steps In
The Trump administration has vowed to crack down on this trend. In May, new English proficiency requirements for commercial truck drivers were rolled out, targeting states that ignore federal licensing protocols. Trump officials have also renewed pressure on states like California, demanding immediate compliance with federal standards or face greater funding penalties.
“The Biden administration released these people onto our roads,” a senior DHS official told Real News Now. “Now Americans are dying because of it. We warned them. They ignored us.”
With Singh’s arrest and the carnage in Ontario now a national story, pressure is mounting on both the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Transportation to close immigration loopholes and restore safety to America’s highways.
