Adverse weather conditions, more specifically a substantial landslide and a surged water level in the Teesta river, have led to the decimation of a permanent bridge. The local populace, in response, has constructed a makeshift bridge enabling them to traverse the Teesta river.
This provisional structure is the key connector linking the farthest village of Mangan to another village on the opposite side. Moreover, this route also provides access to the Lanchen area. Persistent heavy rainfall across Northeast India, in states like Assam, Sikkim, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and others, resulted in dangerous increases in water levels in major rivers like Brahmaputra.
