Rep. Jasmine Crockett said she no longer feels safe in her role as a public official following the assassination of two Minnesota state lawmakers. Speaking in a televised interview, the Texas Democrat blamed former President Donald Trump and what she described as a hostile political environment fueled by his rhetoric.

“I don’t feel safe at all,” Crockett said. “The fact that my safety is a part of doing this job is really bad in and of itself.” She criticized the federal government’s priorities, pointing to millions spent on Trump’s recent birthday parade while most lawmakers receive no personal security.

Crockett explained that unless members of Congress hold specific leadership positions, they are not assigned protection. “We have nothing,” she said. “You get protection based on your title, not based on the risk.”

She went on to suggest that Trump’s political influence has created a climate where threats against public officials are not only more common but increasingly dangerous. Crockett has previously described Trump supporters as symptomatic of a larger mental health crisis in America—comments that drew pushback from the White House press secretary.

Her remarks come as investigations continue into the Minnesota shootings, which law enforcement believe were politically motivated. The attacker reportedly impersonated a law enforcement officer to carry out the shootings and visited multiple elected officials’ homes.

Crockett said her warning isn’t about politics—it’s about survival. “We can’t ignore what’s happening anymore. People are being hunted.”
