Justice Dept Targets George Soros Empire Over Suspected Links To Violent Extremists
The Trump administration has ordered federal prosecutors to investigate George Soros’s network of foundations and nonprofits over suspected ties to violent extremist activity, according to a directive obtained by The New York Times.
U.S. attorneys in California, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Detroit, and Maryland have been instructed to explore possible charges ranging from racketeering and arson to wire fraud and providing material support for terrorism against Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF).
“Everything is on the table right now,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said Thursday when pressed on the scope of the probe. Justice Department spokesman Chad Gilmartin added, “This DOJ, along with our hard-working and dedicated U.S. attorneys, will always prioritize public safety and investigate organizations that conspire to commit acts of violence or other federal violations of law.”
The directive cites findings from the Capital Research Center, a conservative watchdog, which reported that OSF has funneled over $80 million to groups allegedly tied to terrorism or extremist violence. That report claimed OSF-backed groups trained activists in sabotage during the 2020 riots, supported the radical “Stop Cop City” campaign in Atlanta, and instructed activists in using false IDs, blockades, and economic disruption tactics.
OSF denied the allegations, calling the probe “politically motivated.” “The Open Society Foundations unequivocally condemn terrorism and do not fund terrorism,” the group said in a statement. “Our activities are peaceful and lawful, and our grantees are expected to abide by human rights principles and comply with the law.”
The push comes amid growing calls to crack down on left-wing violence after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller said the administration would target organizations “that facilitate violence under the guise of activism.”
Last month, President Donald Trump called for charges against Soros, posting on Truth Social: “George Soros, and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of Violent Protests, and much more, all throughout the United States of America. That includes his Crazy, West Coast friends. Be careful, we’re watching you!”
