Kamala Harris Accuses Trump of Weaponizing DOJ for ‘Revenge,’ Says Justice System Can’t Be Trusted
Former Vice President Kamala Harris launched a blistering attack on President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice during a Sunday interview on MSNBC’s The Weekend, accusing the administration of manipulating the justice system for political payback.
Responding to host Eugene Daniels’ question about whether Americans can trust the DOJ under Trump, Harris replied, “I don’t know if we can trust what’s coming out of the Department of Justice right now.”
Her comments followed the recent indictments of former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, both of whom have been high-profile critics of Trump. Harris framed the moves as part of a broader “vengeance campaign.”
“That pains me to say that as someone who spent the majority of my career as a prosecutor,” Harris said. “The work of a prosecutor should be to do justice. Not to carry out personal vendettas.”
She warned that using federal power to settle political scores endangers the foundation of the American legal system.
“When you have an administration and individuals who are manipulating the justice system of America in that way, they best understand this is not only about something that affects the individuals they’re targeting,” Harris said. “This affects all of us who believe the justice system should be blind — not weaponized based on who someone is, or what they look like.”
Harris has ramped up media appearances in recent weeks as part of her promotional tour for her new memoir 107 Days. At a Los Angeles event last week, Harris drew attention for her raw and explicit remarks about Trump-era officials.
“There’s so much about this moment that is making people feel like they’ve lost their minds,” Harris said during the book event. “When, in fact, these motherf—ers are crazy.”
Her comments come amid growing tension between the Biden-era political class and Trump’s second-term administration, as Trump continues his aggressive efforts to prosecute officials he says acted unlawfully during investigations targeting him.
The Department of Justice has denied any improper political motivation in the ongoing cases, insisting the rule of law remains the guiding standard for all prosecutions.
