Lara Trump Recalls President Trump’s Defiant Vow After Leaving White House in 2021
Lara Trump revealed that President Trump delivered a determined and unexpected message to his family on the night he departed the White House in January 2021, declaring at a private dinner, “Well, kids, I’ve got to do it again.”
Speaking on the “Pod Force One” podcast in an episode released Wednesday, Lara Trump described the mood aboard Air Force One as the family traveled to Palm Beach following the 2020 election. She said the atmosphere was somber and emotional as they left Washington behind.
“It was very somber. It was an incredibly tough time for all of us, and I think it was an incredibly tough time for him,” said Lara Trump, who is married to Eric Trump. She explained that few words were exchanged as the family processed the moment.
According to Lara Trump, President Trump called the family together for dinner that evening at Mar a Lago. Before even taking his seat at the table, she said, he looked around and made it clear that his political career was not over.
“He looked around at all of us and he goes, ‘Well, kids, I’ve got to do it again,’” she recalled. She said the remark captured his refusal to walk away from the political arena despite intense pressure and adversity.
Lara Trump framed the moment as an example of perseverance. She said many people would have stepped aside after facing years of investigations, political opposition, and public scrutiny, but President Trump remained committed to what he believed was right.
In the years that followed, President Trump mounted a political comeback, ultimately defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in a decisive victory that included wins across the major battleground states. The campaign unfolded against the backdrop of multiple legal battles in Washington, Georgia, and New York, along with civil cases that drew national attention.
Despite the investigations, indictments, and even two assassination attempts during the 2024 campaign, President Trump secured the Republican nomination and returned to the White House, fulfilling the promise he made at that family dinner in Palm Beach.
