Maher Backs Away from Kennedy Amid Anti-Vaxx Controversy
Bill Maher, in the past, has relayed some favorable remarks about Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a proponent of anti-vaxx conspiracies and part of the Health and Human Services regime. However, during the most recent episode of ‘Real Time’, he made it obvious that he’s no longer on Kennedy’s side. ‘I am backing those against Bobby Kennedy now,’ said Maher. His statement was a part of his monologue discussing various aspects of the prevailing political scenario, mainly focusing on Donald Trump’s administration, as well as a droll remark about the CDC being stripped down to mere ‘D’.
Before diving into the meat of the episode, Maher touched upon the latest jobs report, which didn’t offer a rosy picture. ‘A new jobs report came today, showing merely 22,000 new jobs. Just 22,000? That’s fewer than what Diddy hires for a bash,’ he quipped. Maher was alluding to a recent incident where former President Donald Trump sacked Erika McEntarfer, who was in charge of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, following an unfavorable jobs report.
Consequent to this disappointing report, in a misguided rebuttal, Trump claimed the report was skewed. Adding to the association’s predicament, Trump’s nominated replacement is a known loyalist with a questionable historical record of prejudiced social media activity.
Not losing focus from Trump, Maher then transitioned into discussing the controversial issue of an ICE raid at a Hyundai plant based in Georgia. Shortly after, he covered Trump’s audacious attempt to unconstitutionally alter the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War. ‘Trump firmly believes we’re in a state of war, as per numerous declarations. Hence, the Department of Defense is slated to be retitled the Department of War,’ Maher paraphrased.
According to Maher, Trump justified this abnormal decision by stating that such a distinct name change would deliver a clear message showcasing America as ‘unrelenting warriors.’ The humorist then reflected on a military offensive accused of targeting alleged drug traffickers living in Venezuela as directed by Trump.
Discussing this, Maher stated, ‘It was claimed that these were individuals involved in the narcotics business. There are indeed nations within this latitude that partake in the drug trade, but Venezuela is not part it.’ It was implied with a satirical jest that this offence towards Venezuela goes beyond mere politics for Trump.
Maher continued, ‘The truth is that Venezuela is our only genuine competitor in the Miss Universe pageant. This fact has certainly piqued the interest of our former President. This could be the underlying reason behind his disdain for Venezuela for allegedly robbing us of our pageant secrets.’
He then shifted gears to discuss the alarming militaristic parade that was hosted by China, and the much-criticized summit that involved several global autocrats, and joked about America changing its stationary.
Not shying away from his humor, Maher linked the notable changes in department names and China’s military show of power saying, ‘China demonstrated the most daunting military parade known to men. Here in America, we’re busy revamping our stationery to reflect the new department names. The Department of Defense is being renamed to the Department of War, and the State Department is becoming merely the Department of Diseases.’
Maher’s wit also didn’t spare Bobby Kennedy. The knives metaphorically pointing towards Kennedy found support from Maher, who confessed, ‘I have to agree, the knives are indeed out for Bobby Kennedy.’
Maher wrapped up the heated discussion with lastly addressing Kennedy’s recent appearance before the Congress, with a promise to continue watching the unfolding political drama.
The show ended on a rather abrupt note, Maher hinting at the unfolding chaos in the political world, leaving viewers in anticipation for his next episode. No topic seemed too sacred for the witty presenter, and the audience waits for what comes next on ‘Real Time’.
