Man Killed In Dallas SWAT Standoff Previously Worked Security For Jasmine Crockett
A man shot and killed by Dallas police during a SWAT standoff this week previously worked as a security guard for Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett, according to multiple law enforcement sources.
Dallas police located the suspect late Wednesday night in a parking garage at Children’s Medical Center Dallas after tracking him to the area, Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said during a Thursday press conference.
Officers discovered the man barricaded inside a vehicle in the garage.
Police deployed tear gas in an attempt to force the suspect out of the vehicle. Authorities say he then exited the car and pointed a firearm at SWAT officers.
Officers opened fire, killing the suspect at the scene.
Law enforcement sources say the man used multiple aliases but was publicly known as Mike King.
Investigators say he allegedly operated a company called Off Duty Police Services, which connected North Texas police officers with off-duty security work.
Authorities say the suspect had been wanted for allegedly impersonating a law enforcement officer.
According to investigators, he had claimed to be a police officer while running the business.
Law enforcement sources also said the suspect frequently drove a replica undercover police vehicle.
Authorities say the vehicle allegedly used stolen license plates that had been taken from cars parked outside a military recruiting office.
Images obtained by reporters show the man standing near Crockett during public appearances and on the campaign trail while she was running for the Democratic nomination for a U.S. Senate seat.
Federal Election Commission records reviewed by reporters indicate that a person identified as Mike King received payments from Crockett’s campaign for security services as recently as last year.
Law enforcement officials also say the suspect managed teams of security personnel working at several hotels and events in downtown Dallas.
Crockett’s office has declined to comment on the situation.
Dallas police said the investigation into the suspect and his activities remains ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Crockett, who was first elected to Congress in 2023, has become a prominent progressive voice in the House and a frequent critic of President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers.
The incident has raised questions about how the suspect, who authorities say had a criminal background and used multiple identities, was able to operate a security business and obtain contracts to provide protection for public officials.
