Manhattan DA Launches Probe Into Eric Swalwell Over Alleged Assault

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation into Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell following allegations of sexual assault made by a former staffer, according to new reporting.

The accuser, who has not been publicly identified, told CNN that the alleged incident occurred in April 2024 after a night of drinking. She claims she was heavily intoxicated and woke up to Swalwell engaging in sexual activity without her consent.

“I was pushing him off of me, saying no,” the woman said, alleging that he did not stop.

According to the report, the woman is one of multiple individuals who have recently come forward with allegations of misconduct involving the congressman. Authorities have not released details about the scope of the investigation or whether any charges are being considered.

In a public statement, the district attorney’s office encouraged anyone with information to contact its Special Victims Division, emphasizing a “trauma-informed, survivor-centered” approach to handling such cases.

Swalwell has denied the allegations, calling them false and pushing back against the claims in a video statement. His denial comes as the accusations begin to escalate legally, moving beyond media reports into a formal investigation.

The development adds significant pressure as Swalwell continues his political campaign, with the probe now bringing potential legal consequences alongside the public scrutiny already surrounding the allegations.

As of now, the investigation remains in its early stages, and no formal charges have been filed.
