Melania Trump Sends Letter to Encourage Putin to Accept Peace: ‘It Is Time’

First Lady Melania Trump added her own voice to the growing push for an end to the Russia–Ukraine war, penning a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin that President Donald Trump hand-delivered during Friday’s summit in Alaska.

The “peace letter,” first reported by Fox News, was read by Putin immediately upon receiving it. Written in Melania’s distinctive compassionate style, the message appealed directly to Putin’s role not just as a leader, but as a figure capable of protecting the next generation from the devastation of war.

“Every child shares the same quiet dreams in their heart, whether born randomly into a nation’s rustic countryside or a magnificent city-center,” the first lady wrote. “They dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger. As parents, it is our duty to nurture the next generation’s hope. As leaders, the responsibility to sustain our children extends beyond the comfort of a few.”

Melania urged Putin to rise above politics and ideology, making the case that the innocence of children belongs to no single nation. “Undeniably, we must strive to paint a dignity-filled world for all—so that every soul may wake to peace, and so that the future itself is perfectly guarded,” she wrote. “In protecting the innocence of these children, you will do more than serve Russia alone—you serve humanity itself.”

Her letter closed with a direct appeal to Putin’s power and legacy. “Such a bold idea transcends all human division, and you, Mr. Putin, are fit to implement this vision with a stroke of the pen today. It is time.”

The letter comes as part of a coordinated effort by the Trump administration to accelerate momentum toward a peace settlement. After meeting with Putin in Anchorage, President Trump said progress had been made but stressed that no deal would be complete without Ukraine’s approval. On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to visit the White House to continue negotiations, a meeting both leaders describe as critical to moving from a ceasefire discussion toward a permanent peace agreement.

By sending her message, Melania Trump has placed moral emphasis on the talks, framing peace not just as a political necessity but as a human duty owed to children and future generations. Her appeal underscored the administration’s message: the war must end, and the time is now.
