A deep sense of loss shrouds the Memphis community as they lament the untimely demise of Pastor Ricky Floyd of The Pursuit of God Church. The-hearted pastor was fatally shot in an unfortunate incident that took place outside a neighborhood bar in South Memphis in the early hours of Wednesday. He has been fondly remembered by his church as a trailblazer, leaving behind an indelible legacy born out of his relentless dedication.
Reverend Dr. Bill Adkins, an associate from Greater Imani Church, recalls his time with Floyd, dating back to the year 1990. To say he was shattered upon hearing the news would be an understatement. Their shared journey included their untiring efforts to save souls through various mentorship initiatives over the decades.
In Adkins’ words, Floyd had a remarkable knack for reaching out to difficult demographics. He managed to convince members involved in gangs to disregard their past affiliations and seek solace in the teachings of Christ. Floyd was well aware of the potential threats and hazards associated with evangelizing in high-crime localities, but such risks failed to deter him.
The memory of Floyd’s selfless endeavors will be preserved within the communities he tirelessly served. According to Adkins, it is painfully ironic that those steadfast in combating gun violence often end up becoming its casualties. Floyd’s life and works are expected to be the central theme of the Bible study to be held on Wednesday evening.
County Commissioner Charlie Caswell shared he had a personal bond with Floyd, viewing him as a friend and spiritual guide. Caswell had only recently returned to The Pursuit of God Church, renewing his association with Floyd. He had a chance to see Floyd in person just the previous day, during a district meeting held in their local community.
Parishioners of The Pursuit of God Church in Frayser remember Floyd fondly, expressing that he was not just their pastor but something more. They recall him as a man deeply devoted to his belief, leaving behind a powerful legacy of love that is set to inspire numerous lives in the years to come.
The late pastor’s loss inspired a special gathering as a tribute to his lifelong efforts. Led by Terrence ‘T.B.’ Boyce, a Fire Proof Open Gym event was hosted in honor of Floyd. Young men from local high schools convened to share prayers, personal reflections, and express their life-changing experiences shaped by Floyd’s teachings.
The general sentiment echoed at the event was a testament to Floyd’s indomitable spirit. His awareness of the inherent perils while trying to touch lives in high-crime zones did not discourage him. Instead, it fueled his resolution to press on with his divine mission of spreading the gospel.
