Nationwide movements against current President Donald Trump’s administration are underway, with a significant economic blackout and various other demonstrations being organized. Supporters are encouraged by the organizers to sidestep mainstream stores and markets on the 4th of July, focusing instead on local enterprises. This particular initiative, however, extends beyond that.
The national demonstration movement, People’s Union USA, has called upon its supporters to miss traditional Independence Day events such as firework displays and parades funded by government revenue while other community necessities are overlooked. They are also instigating further dissent against Trump’s administration by arranging nationwide demonstrations throughout the subsequent holiday weekend. What ignites these protests? The current political climate, spearheaded by Trump’s administration, has ignited significant dissent and resultant protests. Increasing immigration raids were among the first policy changes President Trump instigated upon taking office in January.
As a result, there has been a considerable increase in the number of raids, detentions, and mass deportations. The question then arises, why are there numerous boycotts featuring significantly in 2025? Most, although not all, of these boycotts emphasize the need for private corporations to reintroduce diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. Trump prioritized the termination of federal DEI initiatives following his instatement to office.
Executive orders were signed to stop government initiatives aiming to inspire a wide-ranging cultural change. Large corporations, including Walmart, Lowe’s, McDonald’s, and Meta, began minimizing or fully discontinuing their DEI practices. The decision was implemented by some companies last year and further corporations have followed suit in 2025.
