NYPD Cop on Sick Leave Snuck Into Ryder Cup in Tactical Gear, Claimed Trump Security Role

An NYPD detective has been suspended after allegedly sneaking into the Ryder Cup in full tactical gear and pretending to be on President Donald Trump’s security detail, sources told The Post.

Detective Melvin Eng, 46, who also serves as president of the NYPD Asian Jade Society, is now facing administrative charges for theft of services. According to sources and NYPD documents, Eng’s cover story began to unravel only when he dropped a gun magazine in front of actual security officials.

“You’re out sick, what are you doing at the Ryder Cup?” one veteran officer fumed. “You can’t do that. It’s theft of service because you went in for free and then you lied and said you worked for Donald Trump.”

Eng reportedly claimed he was working for federal agents as part of Trump’s security detail at the Farmingdale golf tournament Friday. That story was enough to get him inside until the dropped magazine blew his cover, sources said.

“What if he was looking to hurt someone?” another police source warned. “He got in there with his gun, past the Secret Service, past the state police.”

Eng was suspended on Monday. When reached by phone, he told a reporter, “I’m sorry, I gotta go,” before hanging up.

The NYPD has not commented on the incident.
