Revolutionising Urban Construction: Hollywood Park Studios’ Ambitious Venture

The ambitious mixed-use construction project of Hollywood Park, situated in Inglewood, California, is the largest of its kind in the Western US. This sprawling venture will feature an advanced film studio and a production facility within its 300-acre expanse. Once completed, Hollywood Park Studios (HPS), as it is to be named, will herald a new chapter in the future of urban development.

The first noteworthy task that HPS has undertaken is to serve as the primary site for the International Broadcast Center (IBC) for the eagerly-awaited 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles (LA28). The IBC will act as a central hub for media rights holders hailing from all corners of the globe who have secured the exclusive rights to game broadcast and distribution.

The IBC is ingeniously designed to facilitate broadcasters with a spacious setup to house their offices, studios, and control rooms. Apart from these essentials, the IBC will also offer additional ancillary services. The end goal is to ensure a smooth, uninterrupted broadcast and digital coverage of the globally significant event when it graces the city of Los Angeles.

In candid anticipation of the Games’ completion in 2028, HPS will be restructured to cater to studio production and operations. The studio forms a critical component of the comprehensive master development plan of Hollywood Park. This forward-thinking scheme revolves around three core sectors: media, entertainment, and technology (MET).

Some of Hollywood Park’s key architectural features that support the MET strategy are the SoFi Stadium, the YouTube Theater, and the NFL Media office building. The HPS, along with the aforementioned MET establishments, enjoys access to the on-campus retail stores, restaurants, and a hotel, contributing to the all-inclusive ambiance of the site.

The overarching objective of Hollywood Park is to create an all-encompassing, self-sufficient ‘city within a city’, redefining the conventional notions of urban living. Intricately tying media, entertainment, and technology together, this initiative promises to introduce a transformative change in the broader Los Angeles area.

Beyond the tenure of the 2028 games, Hollywood Park Studios hopes to introduce a new line of business, adding a tinge of the quintessential Hollywood charm to the project. In effect, Hollywood Park will emerge as a multifunctional destination, accommodating both work and leisure activities.

The upcoming 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games are seen as an essential component of Hollywood Park’s future. One inherent feature of the event is the transformation of SoFi Stadium into the largest ever Olympic Swimming venue. Additionally, the venue will also host the Olympic Opening Ceremony in conjunction with the LA Memorial Coliseum, and also the Paralympic Games’ Opening Ceremony in 2028.

The IBC possesses a unique distinction in being among the first fully functional facilities for the Games, poised to chronicle every moment of the LA28 Games’ duration. As such, the success of IBC can potentially set the tone for the subsequent phases of the grand Hollywood Park project.

The inaugural phase of Hollywood Park Studios is set to span across 12 acres, housing five sound stages, each encompassing an area of 18,000 square feet. Uniquely, two of these stages can be merged into a single 36,000 square foot stage, providing flexibility in production logistics.

Complementing these stages, HPS will also feature a three-story office building spreading across 80,000 square feet. This space will provide the necessary support for stage, production, and post-production activities. Furthermore, a dedicated space for base camp and a parking structure capable of housing 1,100 cars will also be provided.

A notable feature of the parking structure is the specialized high bay area on the ground level. This space is specifically designed to safely accommodate trailers, furnished with power support for movie production activities. HPS is designed keeping in mind the diverse needs of film production, providing mill facilities and full equipment rental services.

A unique offering from Hollywood Park is its capacity for phased development. It can accommodate up to 20 build-to-suit stages as well as an additional 200,000 square feet of office space essential for associated tasks, coherently coupled with structured parking space.

The initial phase of the project, as well as the prospective developments, will be linked to the fiber ring and power centers spread across the campus. This connection ensures the delivery of premium grade services while also facilitating the integration of current and upcoming AI applications, underlining the project’s commitment to technological innovation.

The commencement of the construction is scheduled shortly, promising to change the landscape of Inglewood and set a precedent for urban mixed-use developments. As we look forward to Hollywood Park’s completion, its potential impact on the region’s economy and status as an entertainment hub is undoubtedly immense.
