Surge of Extreme Activism Across College Campuses

Recent years have witnessed a worrisome surge in extreme activism on college campuses, particularly after the upheavals of October 7, 2023. The Democratic Party’s response to this, surprisingly, rather than eschewing the disruptive phenomena, appears to be of tacit approval. The last year alone has seen campuses rallying for destructive protest movements and anti-American marches flourishing in the heart of major cities like New York and Washington, D.C., alarmingly waved by activists brandishing controversial Hamas flags.

The simmering discontention exploded into violence when two unsuspecting civilians, Sarah Milgrim, an American Jew, and Yaron Lischinsky, a German Christian, became victims of targeted shooting in the nation’s capital. The couple, on the brink of engagement, were brought down by a radical leftist activist operating under the foundational motive of ‘Palestinian liberation’. Sarah, wounded gravely, was ruthlessly shot once more as she sought to escape, depicting a chilling execution-style act on the streets of America.

The scene of horror moved from the capital to Boulder, Colorado, the following weekend. An illegal immigrant called Mohamed Soliman, an Egyptian national, attempted a massacre targeting Americans peacefully participating in a rally seeking justice for hostages. The Trump administration sprung to attention and initiated actions immediately.

The Department of Justice set into motion swiftly to press federal hate crime charges against Soliman, guaranteeing that local jail access would be denied to him. The Department of Homeland Security, not to be outdone, quickly arranged for the arrest of Soliman’s close family members, all illegal residents in the nation, and issued orders for their immediate deportation.

The response from the media and the political left was marked with misplaced sympathies. USA Today’s initial story overlooks the notable details about Soliman’s overstayed visa violations and the horrifying act of his head of the family committing arson with homemade explosive devices. Shockingly, the empathy for the wrong side deepens as it transpires that a federal judge has put on hold the planned deportations.

Criticisms echo that the deportation is reactionary rather than meticulously planned, but one must remember that it is a reaction to attempted murder, visa transgressions, and an ideology fundamentally at odds with Western values propagated by foreign individuals. Claims for shelter from threats like Soliman should be made by American citizens, avoiding falling prey to a sense of victimhood due to incongruent political ideologies of the leadership.

The deadly activities of Hamas which resulted in the loss of 45 American lives on October 7, reveal a disturbing truth about their Western sympathizers. Evidently, there seems to be no concerted effort to curb future instances of deadly violence designed to take place in American cities.

The contrasting approaches towards leadership are vividly displayed in the face of crisis: while the Trump administration takes decisive steps to halt terrorism, it seems Democrats are content with chancing the odds.
