The Leftist Wisconsin Judge Caught Hiding Illegal From ICE Was Just Convicted

A Wisconsin judge suspended earlier this year was convicted Thursday of obstructing federal immigration agents during an attempted arrest inside a Milwaukee courthouse.

Judge Hannah Dugan was found guilty of felony obstruction after a jury determined she interfered with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents trying to detain an illegal immigrant from Mexico back in April. She was acquitted of a separate misdemeanor charge for concealing a wanted person.

Interim U.S. Attorney Brad Schimel emphasized the case was about accountability, not politics.

“We weren’t trying to make an example out of anyone,” Schimel said. “This was necessary to hold Judge Dugan accountable because of the actions she took. There’s not a political aspect to it.”

Federal prosecutors identified the man Dugan attempted to shield as Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a previously deported Mexican national facing multiple charges in Milwaukee for battery and domestic abuse. He had been deported once already in 2013.

According to the FBI, ICE agents waited for Flores-Ruiz to complete his court appearance before attempting to make the arrest. Witnesses said Dugan was informed of their presence and became visibly upset, calling the situation “absurd.” Charging documents say she then told the defendant to leave the courtroom through a back jury exit, giving him access to a restricted area of the courthouse and helping him temporarily evade agents.

ICE agents later apprehended Flores-Ruiz outside the building after a brief foot pursuit.

Following her arrest, the Wisconsin Supreme Court suspended Dugan from the bench pending trial. She now faces up to five years in federal prison when sentenced. Her legal team has said they will seek to overturn the conviction.

The Trump administration praised the outcome. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche released a statement calling Dugan’s actions a betrayal of her oath.

“Former Wisconsin state judge Hannah Dugan betrayed her oath and the people she served when she obstructed federal law enforcement during an immigration enforcement operation,” Blanche said. “Today, a federal jury of her peers found her guilty and sent a clear message: the American people respect law and order. Nobody is above the law.”
