In Georgia’s Haralson County, an everyday traffic stop on Interstate 20 became a significant law enforcement operation as it culminated in the apprehension of four individuals. On a typical Tuesday, Haralson County’s Deputy Michael Manson was conducting his routine patrol on the Interstate when he noticed a white Dodge Charger that raised suspicion due to its presumably illegal window tinting.
Detective Manson decided to pull the vehicle over on account of the obscure window coloring. Upon making contact with the vehicle, the officer reported that he was able to detect a noticeable scent of cannabis emanating from the vehicle’s interior, thereby adding a new dimension of uncertainty to the entire situation.
After smelling the potent odor, the officer engaged further with the driver, asking him to present his driver’s license. In response, the driver affirmed that he was not in possession of a driver’s license, thereby heightening the legal implications of the situation.
At this stage, Manson perceived the need for additional support and consequently called for backup from his department. As soon as the additional law enforcement personnel arrived, Manson instructed the vehicles’ passengers to disembark from the car.
Upon compliance with the order, the officers observed one of the passengers shifting objects within the vehicle. Their suspicion piqued, they decided to delve further into the investigation. The responding officers then proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle.
Through their thorough search, the officers were able to uncover a stash of six firearms surreptitiously hidden within the car. Further findings revealed that half of these munitions were illegally modified with MCDs (machine conversion devices), thus amplifying the severity of the charges the individuals faced.
Adding to the alarm of the situation, it was revealed that one of the firearms had been reported as stolen from the state of Tennessee, providing yet another layer of incrimination.
Following the discoveries, the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office disclosed the names and charges of all four individuals who were subsequently apprehended. The first individual, David Antonio Huggins, 19, from Memphis, Tennessee, has been indicted with a litany of crimes.
These offenses include operating a vehicle without a license, violation of tint regulations, possession of a firearm during the perpetration of a felony, ownership of a perilous weapon, receipt of pilfered property, and criminal utilization of an item with a manipulated identification marker.
Tyrese Dwayne White, 20, also hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, was similarly charged with numerous offenses. These include possession of a firearm during felony execution, procurement of a deadly weapon, receipt of stolen goods, and criminal application of an article with an encoded identification marker.
The third individual apprehended from the vehicle, Marcorellis Lanorris Burns, 21, of Memphis, Tennessee, was indicted on identical charges as Whitaker: possession of a firearm during felony execution, procurement of a deadly weapon, receipt of stolen goods, and criminal application of an article with an encoded identification marker.
The last occupant, Taequan Herndon, 19, of Douglasville, was also arrested on the same charges: possession of a firearm during felony execution, procurement of a deadly weapon, receipt of stolen goods, and criminal use of a modified identification marker.
Following their arrest, the four individuals were sent to Haralson County Detention Center, where they were detained awaiting further legal proceedings. The severity and number of charges against each suspect are likely to result in significant legal consequences for all involved.
The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation into this case, keen on unearthing further details and potential links to other crimes.
