President Donald Trump announced Monday that Israel and Iran have reached an agreement to implement a “complete and total ceasefire” within the next 24 hours, bringing an end to nearly two weeks of escalating conflict.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL.”
The agreement concludes what Trump has now dubbed “The 12 Day War,” a conflict that began with Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and culminated in a U.S.-led operation that crippled Iran’s nuclear program with bunker buster bombs and Tomahawk missiles.
“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will,” Trump added. “God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
Trump confirmed that Iran launched a retaliatory strike on Monday, firing 14 missiles at the U.S. military’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Thirteen of the missiles were intercepted, and one landed in what officials described as a non-critical area. The attack came with advance notice from Iran, which U.S. officials said helped reduce the risk of casualties.
Trump addressed the retaliation shortly after the strike, writing that Iran had “gotten it out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE.” He thanked Iranian officials for their communication and said he would “enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same” in pursuing long-term peace.
According to the Israeli government, 24 Israelis were killed and over 1,200 injured during the course of the conflict, with at least 14 individuals in critical condition.
The ceasefire represents a major diplomatic achievement for the Trump administration, ending the region’s most dangerous military escalation in years just two days after U.S. forces entered the conflict.
