Trump Blasts Ilhan Omar as ‘Garbage,’ Slams Somali Migrants Over Minnesota Fraud: ‘We Don’t Want Them’
President Donald Trump tore into Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Tuesday, calling her “garbage” and demanding Somali immigrants “leave” the United States as he addressed the massive fraud scandal rocking Minnesota.
Speaking during a cabinet meeting, Trump didn’t hold back.
“When I see somebody like Ilhan Omar… I’ve always watched her for years. I’ve watched her complain about our Constitution, how she’s being treated badly,” Trump said. “Hates everybody, hates Jewish people, hates everybody. And I think she’s an incompetent person. She’s a real terrible person.”
Trump’s comments came as he addressed the Feeding Our Future scandal, a nearly $1 billion Medicaid and social services fraud scheme that has plagued Omar’s home state and implicated dozens of Somali immigrants and nonprofits.
“They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country,” Trump said of the Somali nationals involved in the scheme. “Their country is no good for a reason. Your country stinks and we don’t want them in our country.”
He continued, “Our country is at a tipping point. We’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country. Ilhan Omar is garbage. She’s garbage. Her friends are garbage. These are people that do nothing but complain. They come from hell, and they complain and do nothing but b—, we don’t want them in our country.”
Omar, who came to the U.S. as a Somali refugee and went on to become one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, fired back at the president on social media.
“His obsession with me is creepy. I hope he gets the help he desperately needs,” she posted on X.
Still, despite the animosity between them, Omar has previously defended Trump when confronted by foreign diplomats. According to Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Omar pushed back on a Belgian official in April who criticized Trump.
“You might not like what our president is doing, and you might not agree with our foreign policy,” Omar reportedly said. “But when we’re here, you will respect our president!”
Trump also took a shot at Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D), who has faced heavy criticism for the fraud that flourished under his administration.
“I think the man’s a grossly incompetent man,” Trump said.
The Feeding Our Future scandal has already resulted in 59 convictions, with the Justice Department charging its 78th defendant last week. Fraudsters allegedly pocketed hundreds of millions in taxpayer funds intended for social programs like free meals for children.
The scandal has become a flashpoint in Trump’s immigration push, with the president vowing tighter enforcement and saying the U.S. must stop importing “leeches and criminals.”
Trump has previously said he wants a full travel ban on countries “flooding our nation with killers,” and has frozen asylum claims from 19 countries since an Afghan migrant killed a National Guardsman in Washington, D.C.
Now, the former president appears to be tying that policy directly to high-profile criminal cases like the one in Minnesota.
“Enough is enough,” Trump said. “We don’t want them here. We don’t need them here. And we’re going to put a stop to it.”
