President Trump enforced on Wednesday his declaration that American missile strikes demolished Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, in spite of intelligence from the Pentagon calling into question the extent of the actual destruction inflicted. Concluding what he referred to as a triumphant NATO gathering, Trump maintained that the preceding weekend’s assault had completely ‘wiped out’ subterranean nuclear sites. He credited these strikes with the cessation of the two-week conflict between Israel and Iran. ‘It was truly awful, absolutely annihilating. The tunnels are impenetrable now,’ stated Trump. ‘In my views, this is a grand victory.’
‘The deterioration caused was severe enough for them to abort the war,’ he proclaimed. ‘That wrapped up the war.’ Trump drew parallels of his airstrikes with the actions of the United States during the nuclear bombings of Japan, culminating effectively in the end of the Second World War. ‘If one was to observe Hiroshima and Nagasaki, one would find it clear that they ended a war too. The strikes that we carried out put an end to a war in a slightly different but equally transformative way. The destructive power was overwhelming,’ asserted Trump.
According to Trump, the United States has plans to conduct a new set of nuclear discussions with Iran in the upcoming weeks, proposing that the ceasefire between the Islamic Republic and Israel continues. Preceding his declaration, Trump engaged in what he labelled as a constructive hour-long dialogue with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, no conclusive breakthrough concerning the long-standing Russian invasion, which is in its third year, was reported.
Despite the refusal of the Russian stalwart, Vladimir Putin, to comply with Trump’s demands for a cessation of hostilities leading to peace talks, the President was insistent on his belief that Putin wishes to terminate the war in Ukraine. ‘He is keen to extract himself from this ominous situation. It’s a thorny societal issue for him,’ Trump commented about Putin.
Infusing a lighthearted tone into the conversation, Trump declared this summit as a massive achievement and expressed gratitude to the Netherlands’ royal family for their outstanding hospitality. In appreciation towards the alliance’s decision on Wednesday, Trump lauded its decision to increase most members’ defense expenditure to 5% of their GDP, with the primary exception being Spain.
‘The consequent increase will contribute over $1 trillion annually to our joint defense funds,’ he stated. ‘This is an enormous victory for Europe and the Western civilization, in general,’ he continued to remark, also insinuating he would pressurize Spain into bearing the expense for their failure to augment their financial contribution.
