Trump Honors Veterans at Arlington, Declares New ‘Victory Day’ and Slams Political Correctness in Military

President Donald Trump marked Veterans Day with a powerful tribute to America’s service members, speaking at Arlington National Cemetery about the “legacy of gallantry and daring” that defines the U.S. military. In a sweeping speech filled with history, personal stories, and promises for the future, Trump emphasized his administration’s commitment to honoring veterans and restoring a winning spirit to the armed forces.

“To every veteran, we say the words too often left unsaid: Thank you for your service,” Trump declared. “You have earned the respect and the gratitude of our entire nation. We salute you, and we will never forget what you’ve done to keep America safe, sovereign, and free.”

He spoke of the sacrifices made by countless American heroes throughout history, highlighting the lives of Major Sullivan Ballou, Colonel Bull Wolverton, Captain William Swenson, and Brigadier General Dale Stovall. Trump used their stories to illustrate the courage, selflessness, and patriotism that define America’s armed forces.

Captain Swenson, who was present at the ceremony, was praised for his actions during a deadly 2009 Taliban ambush in Afghanistan. Trump recounted how Swenson braved enemy fire repeatedly to rescue wounded comrades. “He refused to leave any man behind,” Trump said.

Brigadier General Stovall, also in attendance, was honored for a daring rescue mission during the Vietnam War that earned him multiple decorations. “You are a legend,” Trump told him. “You look good, General. I wish I looked that good.”

Trump also used the occasion to announce that Veterans Day would now be officially recognized as “Victory Day” in honor of World War I, with World War II potentially added in the future. “Other countries have Victory Days. We’re the ones who won the wars—we should have them too,” he said.

The president took a swipe at political correctness in the military, saying that under his leadership, “we’re not going to be politically correct anymore.” He emphasized that the Department of Defense would be renamed the Department of War, and that future military action would be focused solely on victory. “From now on, when we fight a war, we only fight to win,” Trump declared.

He also noted his administration’s work in reducing the VA backlog and improving care for veterans, contrasting it with what he described as Joe Biden’s neglect. “We’re fighting for the veterans who have always been there for us,” Trump said. “And we’re working with people who love and respect them.”

The speech concluded with a message of national pride. “The flame of liberty shines bright,” Trump said. “Our magnificent destiny stands more splendid and glorious than ever before.”
