Trump Reacts To Marjorie Taylor Greene Resignation: “Great News For The Country”

President Donald Trump didn’t mince words in reacting to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s surprise resignation announcement Friday night, calling her departure “great news for the country” in a blunt rebuke of the Georgia firebrand he once championed.

Speaking to ABC’s Rachel Scott, Trump confirmed he had no prior warning from Greene before she made her decision public. “Nah, it doesn’t matter,” he said when asked if Greene gave him a heads-up. “I think it’s great. I think she should be happy.”

In classic Trump fashion, he added, “The rift is between me and her, not her and me.”

From Ally to Adversary

Greene’s political rise was largely fueled by her early and vocal support of Trump, making her one of the most recognizable pro-MAGA voices in Congress. But over the past several weeks, tensions erupted. Greene had criticized the president’s strategy on the release of Epstein-related documents, questioned Republican leadership’s direction under Trump, and labeled some of Trump’s international diplomacy efforts as “America Last.”

That led to Trump publicly withdrawing his endorsement and signaling he would support a primary challenger against her in Georgia’s 14th District.

Trump Doubles Down

Trump didn’t stop at verbal jabs. On Saturday morning, he took to Truth Social, hammering Greene once more — this time calling her “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown,” a likely intentional dig.

“Because of PLUMMETING Poll Numbers, and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement (where she would have no chance of winning!), [Greene] has decided to call it ‘quits,’” Trump wrote.

He also blasted her association with libertarian-leaning Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), calling him “the WORST Republican Congressman in decades” and “Rand Paul Jr.”

“For some reason, primarily that I refused to return her never ending barrage of phone calls, Marjorie went BAD,” Trump said. Still, he ended on a note of backhanded appreciation: “Nevertheless, I will always appreciate Marjorie, and thank her for her service to our Country!”

Greene’s Sign-Off

In her resignation video, Greene claimed her resignation was driven by principle, not politics. “Loyalty should be a two-way street,” she said, clearly referencing Trump. “My self worth is not defined by a man, but instead by God, who created everything in existence.”

Greene will officially step down on January 5.

Fallout and Future

Once one of Trump’s loudest defenders, Greene’s fall from grace is now complete. Trump’s endorsement remains kingmaker in GOP politics, and Greene’s departure clears the path for a new pro-Trump conservative to represent Georgia’s deep-red 14th District.

Whether Greene attempts a political comeback in the future remains to be seen, but for now, Trump has made his position clear: she’s out, and he’s not looking back.
