Trump Responds To Attack On State Lawmakers: ‘Such Horrific Violence Will Not Be Tolerated’
President Donald Trump issued a strong statement through White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt following a politically charged double shooting in Minnesota that left two Democratic lawmakers dead and two others hospitalized. The attacks are being investigated as coordinated and deliberate acts of political violence.
“I’ve been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers,” Trump said. “Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI are investigating the situation and will prosecute anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law. Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America. God bless the great people of Minnesota—a truly great place.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi echoed the president’s remarks, calling the incident “a chilling act of domestic political terror.” She confirmed the FBI is now fully engaged on the ground and that both federal and local agencies are pursuing all leads.
The violence was confirmed during a press conference held by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who disclosed that former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were found shot and killed in their Brooklyn Park home. Hours earlier, State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette were shot in a separate but eerily similar attack in Champlin. Both Hoffman and his wife are hospitalized and reportedly in stable condition.
Investigators believe the suspect may have posed as a law enforcement officer to gain entry, wearing tactical gear and driving a vehicle equipped with flashing lights. Officials have since issued a public warning to Minnesota residents, advising them not to open their doors to individuals claiming to be police unless they arrive in verified pairs.
The White House, Justice Department, and FBI have classified the incident as a politically motivated act of domestic extremism and vowed swift accountability.
As tributes pour in from across the political spectrum, the killings have reignited concerns about rising threats to public officials. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are now calling for enhanced security measures and a national reckoning over the normalization of political violence.
President Trump’s message made it clear: there will be no leniency for those who bring bloodshed into the political process. “We will find those responsible. And we will not rest until justice is done.”
