Trump Responds to Epstein Emails Dropped by Democrats, Says It’s an Attempt to ‘Deflect’ From Shutdown
President Donald Trump is pushing back hard after House Democrats released a batch of emails on Wednesday that mention his name in connection with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. In a swift response on Truth Social, Trump accused Democrats of using the Epstein scandal to distract from their own failures—particularly their role in the ongoing government shutdown.
“The Democrats are trying to bring up the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax again because they’ll do anything at all to deflect on how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown,” Trump wrote. “Only a very bad, or stupid, Republican would fall into that trap.”
The president went on to slam Democrats for what he described as their reckless handling of government funding, which he says triggered $1.5 trillion in damages to the country and left millions of Americans exposed to unnecessary risk. “There should be no deflections to Epstein or anything else,” Trump said. “Any Republicans involved should be focused only on opening up our Country, and fixing the massive damage caused by the Democrats!”
The emails, released by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, include one from January 2019 in which Epstein tells author Michael Wolff that Trump “knew about the girls,” and another message where he claims Trump spent time at his home with one of the victims. The documents allege that Trump had knowledge of Epstein’s crimes and that he had personally asked Ghislaine Maxwell to stop something related to “the girls,” though the details remain vague and unverified.
Despite these claims, the president and his allies have long insisted that Trump distanced himself from Epstein after learning of his behavior. In 2007, Trump reportedly banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago, and has since said he had “a falling out” with him long before Epstein’s legal troubles exploded into public view.
House Republicans quickly responded to the Democrat-led email dump by releasing an additional 20,000 pages of documents from Epstein’s estate. These documents, they say, paint a broader picture of Epstein’s network and cast doubt on the idea that Trump was in any way complicit.
Wednesday’s revelations arrive at a politically charged moment, with a government shutdown dominating headlines and growing frustration among voters. Trump’s response suggests he sees the timing of the email release as no coincidence.
“This is the same Democrat party that shut down the government and then tried to change the subject by dragging out long-dead scandals,” one senior Trump adviser said. “The American people aren’t buying it.”
Democrats, however, argue that the emails raise “serious questions” about Trump’s past relationship with Epstein. They say the timing is necessary, as more information continues to emerge from Epstein’s estate and as court records are unsealed.
The emails do not prove any criminal wrongdoing by Trump, but they provide more fuel for political attacks at a time when the administration is under intense scrutiny over both its economic agenda and handling of high-profile investigations.
NEW: @PressSec on today’s Epstein news: “The Democrats selectively leaked emails to the liberal media to create a fake narrative to smear President Trump. The ‘unnamed victim’ referenced in these emails is the late Virginia Giuffre, who repeatedly said President Trump was not…
