Trump Says Musk Has No Choice But To Align With Republicans

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that tech billionaire Elon Musk will inevitably align with Republicans—whether he likes it or not.

During an interview on The Scott Jennings Show, Trump addressed the rocky relationship between Musk and the GOP following the tech mogul’s criticism of the president’s landmark “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” Despite their public rift, Trump signaled that the door remains open.

“I don’t think he has a choice. So, what’s he gonna do? He’s going to go with the radical Left lunatics?” Trump said. “They’re lunatics. I don’t think he has a choice.”

Trump: Musk Made A Mistake, But He’ll Be Back

Trump didn’t shy away from criticizing Musk for “getting off the reservation” when he opposed Trump’s major legislative package, but said he believes Musk regrets it.

“He’s a man of common sense. He’s a good man. He got off the reservation incorrectly, and that’s okay because, you know, it’s just one of those things. But he’s a good person,” Trump said. “He’s got, you know, 80% super genius, and then 20% he’s got some problems. And when he works out the 20%, he’ll be great.”

The president added that Musk “wished he didn’t do it” and “has some difficulty” but ultimately “will come around.”

Musk’s “America Party” On Ice

After publicly denouncing the “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” Musk announced the formation of his own political movement—dubbed the America Party—claiming that both major parties had failed the country.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk posted in July. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”

However, Musk has reportedly paused those plans after realizing the division it would cause with key Republican allies, including Vice President JD Vance.

Vance Says Musk “Helped A Lot”

Vance, who is widely seen as a rising GOP star and potential 2028 contender, echoed Trump’s sentiment last month, crediting Musk with playing a major role in the 2024 election.

“He did help us a lot in the election. And the president even says, with all his frustration, Elon was a very, very critical part of the team last election,” Vance said. “My hope is by the midterms things are kind of back to normal.”

Trump’s remarks make clear that while the White House was frustrated with Musk’s detour, the administration still views the tech billionaire as a valuable—and inevitable—ally in the battle against the radical Left.
