Trump Signature To Appear On U.S. Currency In First-Ever Move For 250th Anniversary

President Donald Trump’s signature will appear on newly printed U.S. dollar bills, marking a historic first as the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary.

The Treasury Department confirmed the move, describing it as a fitting tribute tied to the Semiquincentennial. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said placing Trump’s name on American currency reflects both the country’s legacy and the president’s role in shaping it.

Under the plan, Trump’s signature will replace that of the U.S. Treasurer on the bills. Treasurer Brandon Beach said the change is both appropriate and deserved, emphasizing the significance of the milestone anniversary.

Reports indicate that $100 bills bearing Trump’s signature will begin printing in June, with circulation expected ahead of the July 4 celebration. Additional denominations are set to follow in the months after.

The United States has issued paper currency since 1861, but no sitting president’s signature has ever appeared on it, making this a notable departure from longstanding tradition.

The announcement follows another recent approval allowing Trump’s image to appear on a commemorative gold coin tied to the anniversary. There are also discussions about a circulating $1 coin featuring Trump, though legal hurdles remain due to a longstanding rule that prohibits living individuals from appearing on U.S. currency.

The decision has sparked debate. Supporters argue it honors the moment and reflects national pride, while critics say it challenges traditional norms surrounding American currency and symbolism.

The rollout is expected to continue throughout the anniversary year as part of broader efforts to mark the country’s 250th birthday.
