Trump Teases Running for a Third Term: ‘Not Joking’

President Donald Trump has once again shocked political insiders by suggesting he’s seriously exploring options for a third term in office, and this time, he says “I’m not joking.” In a recent interview, Trump hinted that there are “methods” that could allow him to remain in power beyond the traditional two-term limit imposed by the 22nd Amendment.

“There are methods which you could do it,” Trump said when pressed on whether he’d entertain another run post-2028. “We’ll see what happens.”

One Strategy: Trump as Vice President, Then President Again

Among the ideas reportedly under discussion: Vice President JD Vance could run for president in 2028 with Trump on the ticket as Vice President. Should Vance win and then resign, Trump could constitutionally be elevated back into the presidency—bypassing term limits through succession, not reelection.

Legal scholars have already begun debating the constitutionality of such a move, but Trump’s allies argue that there’s no explicit language in the Constitution preventing it.

“We play by the rules—just better than they do,” said one Trump advisor.

Republican Push to Overhaul the 22nd Amendment

In Congress, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has already introduced a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow a president to serve three terms, though not more than two consecutively. The amendment is a long shot, but it underscores growing momentum on the Right to keep Trump in office beyond the traditional limit.

Supporters of the proposal argue that if voters want Trump to serve again, they should have that choice. They point to the current global and domestic challenges and say Trump’s leadership is uniquely qualified to deal with them.

“America doesn’t need term limits when it needs survival,” said one supporter.

Critics Cry Foul—But Trump Isn’t Backing Down

Democrats and media outlets immediately decried the comments, calling Trump’s third-term talk a threat to democracy. But Trump brushed off the hysteria, saying the real threat is from the radical Left, which is trying to “destroy the country with open borders, weak leadership, and globalist policies.”

“I’m fighting for America,” Trump said. “And I’ll do whatever it takes to protect this country.”

Not Just Talk—A Growing Movement

While Trump has not made a formal announcement, his remarks were delivered with serious intent, and his base is already buzzing about the possibility. Legal challenges would almost certainly follow any attempt to serve a third term—but that hasn’t stopped Trump before.

Whether it’s by constitutional amendment, legal succession, or a bold electoral maneuver, Trump is keeping every option on the table.
“Nothing is off the table,” he said. “We’re going to save this country, one way or another.”
