President Donald Trump slammed Special Counsel Jack Smith as “a real sleazebag” after newly released documents revealed the FBI secretly collected phone records of top Republican lawmakers under Smith’s direction.

“Deranged Jack Smith got caught with his hand in the cookie jar,” Trump posted Monday on Truth Social. “A real sleazebag!!!”

The bombshell revelation came from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who released documentation showing the FBI conducted what’s called a “preliminary toll analysis” on the communications of eight GOP senators and a sitting House Republican in 2023. The data was obtained as part of a covert operation known as Arctic Frost—the Biden DOJ’s investigation into alleged “election interference” related to 2020.

The lawmakers whose records were accessed include:

• Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.)

All of them have been vocal supporters of Trump or have raised objections to the 2020 election results—making the FBI’s focus on them during Arctic Frost especially suspect.

Smith, who led the DOJ’s criminal cases against Trump—including the 44-count indictments over the classified documents at Mar-a-Lago and 2020 election disputes—was at the helm when this surveillance occurred.

Grassley, a senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, demanded answers and transparency from the FBI, questioning whether Arctic Frost was a politically motivated fishing expedition aimed at silencing dissent.

The revelation has ignited outrage among conservatives, who say this proves what they’ve long suspected: the Biden administration is weaponizing federal law enforcement to target its political opponents.
