Trump Unloads On New Jersey Dem Charged In ICE Dust-Up: ‘The Days Of That Crap Are OVER’
President Donald Trump is taking direct aim at Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver following her recent indictment for allegedly assaulting and obstructing federal agents during a protest outside an ICE facility in Newark, New Jersey. Trump didn’t mince words, calling McIver “out of control” and making it clear that under his administration, lawlessness by elected officials will no longer be tolerated.
Speaking to reporters, Trump endorsed the Justice Department’s decision to prosecute McIver, saying, “The days of that crap are over. You don’t get to attack law enforcement and hide behind a congressional pin. Not anymore.”
The incident occurred on May 9 during a protest at the Delaney Hall detention facility. McIver, joined by fellow Democrats Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman and Rob Menendez, as well as Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, reportedly attempted to forcibly enter the facility. According to federal authorities, McIver physically interfered with agents as they arrested Baraka for trespassing—a charge that was later dropped.
McIver has denied the allegations, insisting that she was performing her constitutional duty to oversee federal agencies and immigration practices. Her attorney, former U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman, blasted the charges as politically motivated and accused ICE agents of escalating the confrontation.
Trump dismissed those claims as typical deflection from a party that has, in his view, enabled chaos at the border and undermined the rule of law. “She thinks because she’s a Democrat, she can walk onto federal property, interfere with law enforcement, and walk away clean,” Trump said. “Not under my watch.”
The charges against McIver have sparked a political firestorm. Democratic leaders have condemned the indictment, accusing the Trump administration of weaponizing the Justice Department to intimidate lawmakers. Republicans, on the other hand, argue the prosecution is long overdue and a necessary stand for law and order.
This high-profile clash highlights deepening tensions between federal immigration enforcement and left-wing politicians who continue to oppose ICE operations. For Trump, the case is a clear-cut example of what his administration is determined to root out: political grandstanding at the expense of national security.
“The people are with us,” Trump said. “They’re tired of the double standards, tired of the excuses, and tired of politicians acting like they’re above the law. We’re putting an end to it.”
