Trump Warns Canada: 100% Tariff Incoming if China Trade Deal Moves Forward

President Donald Trump issued a stern warning Saturday morning to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, threatening a sweeping 100 percent tariff on all Canadian imports if Carney proceeds with a new trade agreement with communist China.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump slammed the proposed Canada-China trade deal, accusing Carney of trying to turn America’s northern neighbor into a backdoor shipping route for Chinese goods.

“If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken,” Trump wrote.

The president referred to Carney as “Governor Carney” — a jab rooted in Trump’s long-standing remarks that he’d like to turn Canada into the 51st state of the United States. Carney has strongly rejected the idea, but Trump has continued to push the rhetorical needle.

In his post, Trump predicted dire consequences for Canada if it deepens trade ties with Beijing.

“China will eat Canada alive, completely devour it, including the destruction of their businesses, social fabric, and general way of life,” Trump warned. “If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A.”

The Canadian government announced the deal Friday. Under the agreement, China will ease tariffs on several key Canadian agricultural exports — including canola, seafood, and peas — while Canada will allow a limited number of Chinese electric vehicles to enter the market under reduced tariffs.

Carney praised the deal as “historic and productive,” but Trump sees it as a threat to both American industry and national security.

The warning comes days after fireworks erupted at the World Economic Forum. Carney took a swipe at the United States for what he called “imperial ambitions” after Trump’s public remarks about purchasing Greenland from Denmark. That criticism didn’t sit well with the president.

“I watched your prime minister yesterday,” Trump said during a press event Wednesday. “He wasn’t so grateful, but they should be grateful to us. Canada lives because of the United States.”

He added a direct message to Carney.

“Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements.”

Trump went on to explain that the U.S. plan to purchase Greenland is rooted in global security and the protection of North America as a whole.

“All we want from Denmark for national and international security and to keep our very energetic and dangerous potential enemies at bay is this land on which we’re going to build the greatest golden dome ever built,” Trump said.

“We’re building a golden dome that’s going to, just by its very nature, be defending Canada. Canada gets a lot of freebies from us, by the way,” the president added. “They should be grateful also, but they’re not.”
