Trump’s Tariffs and Immigration Policies: Boon or Bane?
Only in a handful of jobs can one maintain their position while being frequently incorrect. Interestingly, it seems that being a Democratic Party member is one such profession. The missteps of this party become less noticeable when their representative is in office, as the media tends to cloak their errors under a veil of misrepresentation and distraction. Such protections, however, do not apply when a president like Donald Trump is steering the nation, given that the factual inconsistencies in the Democratic narratives are exposed daily.
The tariffs implemented by Trump’s administration serves as a good example of this. Predictions from ‘experts’ indicated a high risk of significant international conflicts and mounting inflation as a result of these tariffs. Yet, these dire forecasts failed to materialize. Countries impacted by increased tariffs adjusted and revamped their trade agreements, easing the anticipated tensions.
Moreover, the tariffs have proven to be quite lucrative. In one month alone, July, $29.6 billion was brought in by these tariffs. From the fiscal year’s commencement in October to the present day in 2025, the U.S. has reaped an impressive $156.4 billion in tariff revenues. Meanwhile, inflation which had surged under Joe Biden’s administration has now fallen to a four-year low earlier this year.
The Democratic party’s narrative on immigration is also riddled with inaccuracy. According to them, the border was ‘secure’ during Biden’s presidency – an alarming indication of their utter disconnection from the stark reality. The former president’s open border policy only emboldened illegal immigration.
Contrarily, the Trump administration’s strong stance on immigration has led to remarkable results. Trump’s enforcement of immigration laws, together with his decision to close the southern border, has led to a significant decline in illegal border crossings. July of 2025 witnessed the lowest number of illegal border crossings ever recorded by Customs and Border Protection.
In fact, not a single unauthorized immigrant was released into the U.S. for the third consecutive month. Furthermore, nearly 100,000 undocumented immigrants who committed offences in the U.S. were deported. Similarly, it’s estimated that approximately one million illegal immigrants have left voluntarily.
The issue of illegal immigration is also associated with job losses, an increase in violent crime, and the unchecked proliferation of drug and human trafficking. Recent headlines have also brought attention to another problem. An illegal immigrant, Harjinder Singh, was given a truck driving license in California despite failing the required English proficiency test. Subsequently, he was involved in a tragic accident claiming three lives.
Another stance where Democrats have been consistently mistaken surrounds Trump’s foreign policy strategies. The Democratic insistence that Trump’s international policies would plunge America into disastrous wars appears misguided, given Trump’s proactive role in mitigating international conflicts.
Trump has effectively mediated peace dialogues, leading to a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, a resolution of the border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand, and commitments for a future peace treaty involving Armenia and Azerbaijan. Trump has also facilitated meetings leading to a peace agreement between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
His latest effort saw him hosting the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, in Alaska, with the aim of putting an end to the destructive conflict between Russia and Ukraine. A historic meeting between Trump and the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, followed this event. Several other international leaders attended, marking a rare moment of trans-Atlantic unity.
While it’s uncertain whether Trump’s renowned negotiation skills can achieve a lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine, effort in this area is ongoing, just as his attempts to quell the enduring conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Critics, quick to detract, question his vision of transforming Gaza into a Mediterranean resort area and underscore the fragility of peace agreements.
Nevertheless, these criticisms overlook two crucial points. Firstly, that any initial agreement between warring nations is bound to be fragile. And secondly, the intention to strive towards a peaceful resolution deserves recognition and praise, particularly when compared with agendas focusing on profit from warfare and destruction.
Demonstrably, Democrats have been off the mark with their critiques of Trump’s policy initiatives. Moreover, it seems that they are aware of their misjudgements. They exhibit no coherent economic message, appear to prioritize surveillance and large multinational corporations, and seem more committed to defending the ‘rights’ of illegal immigrants and offenders over domestic workers and families.
This unsettled state of the Democratic Party was highlighted in a recent interview with James Carville, a key Democratic strategist, on Fox News. Even he seemed at a loss to answer pointed questions about the present and future of the party, relying on vague reassurances about future election success as responses.
His inability to name exactly how the Democrats would secure victory in 2026 or nominate a promising presidential candidate for 2028 was telling. This lack of the answers even among veteran Democratic strategists underscores the deep issues plaguing the party.
The situation is indeed concerning when even established figures like Carville struggle to shed light on the current predicament of the Democratic Party or convincingly advocate for any particular policy from the Democratic National Committee’s platform.
