US to Release Special Trump Silver Dollar to Celebrate America’s 250th
U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach confirmed Friday that the Treasury Department is preparing a commemorative silver dollar bearing President Donald Trump’s image on both sides to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
“No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and @POTUS are real,” Beach posted on X. “Looking forward to sharing more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over.”
According to the mock-up, one side of the coin displays Trump’s portrait above the words “In God We Trust” and the dates 1776–2026. The reverse shows Trump’s now-famous fist-pump following last year’s assassination attempt, surrounded by the words “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT.”
ATTENTION ALL PATRIOTS: America is back, and so is the one-dollar coin.?@POTUS @realDonaldTrump will forever be the face of America’s 250th Birthday, thanks to @SecScottBessent and @TreasurerBeach.

“I’m not sure if he’s seen it, but I’m sure he will love it,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters when asked about the design.
Federal law, however, appears to prohibit living presidents from appearing on currency. The Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020, which authorized the Mint’s Semiquincentennial Program, explicitly states that no portraits of living individuals may appear on the reverse of commemorative coins. The earlier presidential gold-dollar coin series also barred designs featuring a living or recently deceased president.
Still, the Treasury Department stressed that the anniversary coin design is not yet finalized. “Despite the radical left’s forced shutdown of our government, the facts are clear: Under the historic leadership of President Donald J. Trump, our nation is entering its 250th anniversary stronger, more prosperous, and better than ever before,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “While a final $1 dollar coin design has not yet been selected, this first draft reflects well the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, even in the face of immense obstacles.”
The coin would be the first major dollar-sized commemorative piece since the Eisenhower dollar, which was discontinued in 1978. More than 230 million bicentennial silver dollars were minted in the 1970s featuring Eisenhower on the front and a Liberty Bell–moon design on the back. Other bicentennial coins included a Kennedy half-dollar with Independence Hall and the now-iconic “drummer boy” Washington quarter.
Historically, only once has a sitting president appeared on U.S. currency: Calvin Coolidge in 1926, when his profile was included on a half-dollar marking America’s 150th anniversary.
It remains unclear whether the Trump dollar would be produced in silver, gold, or copper-nickel alloys, or whether it would follow the larger 1.5-inch size of earlier commemorative dollars. The Mint has also not said whether redesigned half-dollars and quarters for 2026 are being considered.
The unveiling comes just one week after Reps. Abe Hamadeh (R-Ariz.) and August Pfluger (R-Texas) introduced legislation to honor slain conservative leader Charlie Kirk on a silver dollar coin. Their proposed design features Kirk’s likeness alongside the biblical phrase “well done, good and faithful servant.” Lawmakers have stressed that the Kirk coins would be minted at no cost to taxpayers, with final approval from President Trump.
