After a complete transformations, the W Hollywood, nestled in the ‘Vinyl District,’ has opened its doors again. The beginning of this new chapter is marked by the establishment of a glitzy, all-day café on the ground floor. The Rockwell Group was behind the whole resurgence, developing a charming narrative that plays out across the entire hotel, with the café as its latest act.
The ground floor café sits comfortably beside the hotel’s primary entrance, forming a compelling contrast with the Living Room lounge, its bar, and the adjacent patio. The design of the café imaginatively combines opulence and comfort, thereby contributing to the overall chic ambience of the hotel. The café is ready and waiting from dawn through to dusk, inviting guests and locals alike to bask in its innovative design and culinary offerings.
The ingenious mind behind the café’s design is Alexa Nafisi-Movaghar of Adean Studios, based in the Bay Area. Drawing from the rich tapestry of Hollywood’s past and present, she artfully gestured to the iconic location in her design. Light fills the café during sunlight hours, reflecting off mustard-yellow midcentury velvet chairs and custom banquettes, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
Unique features in the café include bespoke globe pendant chandeliers and handmade Zia tiles adorning the wall behind the marble coffee counter. The tiles parallel the distinctive Adean Studio dining tables, harmoniously blending into the broader aesthetic. During the day, the ambiance is further enriched by light spilling in from the patio, which dances off the aforementioned décor, casting fascinating patterns.
Speckled flooring enhances the overall look of the café, resonating with the custom dining tables crafted in the Adean Studio. The café also features an exquisite touch in the form of a white 3D wall panel presenting a discreet yet distinctive leaf and bird pattern. The creative use of motifs and colors throughout the café fulfills a necessary blend of luxury and homeliness.
As the day transitions into night, the café’s main room takes on a romantic hue with backlit lighting. The design was inspired by Venus, the Goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, justifying the transformation into a warm, welcoming, and intimate private dining environment. The purposeful interplay of light throughout the day and night ensures that the café maintains a dynamic and ever-changing atmosphere.
Begin your mornings with a menu boasting fresh viennoiseries from the café’s front room pastry cases. Alongside the pastry offerings is the option of a luxury-filled breakfast burrito. Packed with avocado and hashbrowns, it also includes a wagyu short rib that has been slow-cooked for 24 hours, served with a side of ranchero sauce.
This breakfast burrito gives the famed burrito at the Great White Cafés a run for its money. This culinary entity not only provides its patrons with an opportunity to indulge in rich flavors but also reinvents a classic breakfast dish with an exclusive touch.
The café doesn’t just excel in breakfast offerings; it also has an exciting array of lunch options. A falafel sandwich and a Thai chicken salad with a dressing of ginger and lemongrass stand out on the menu. The latter is a nod to the chef’s roots, as the recipe comes directly from his grandmother’s kitchen.
Infusing innovation into traditional hospitality, the café extends its services to dinner. It offers the unique ‘There There’ menu, including a variety of dishes crafted with the utmost care and using the finest ingredients. This new addition offers patrons plenty of exciting reasons to revisit the café after sunset.
On this menu, you will find options such as chicken tenders served with caviar, forest mushroom croquettes, and a dessert of white miso and green matcha cheesecake. The ‘purple haze’ cocktail is also on offer, blending Roku gin with fragrant lavender agave. The café’s dinner menu guarantees a matchless dining experience, maintaining a chic yet laid-back vibe.
