The recent wave of pro-terrorism sentiment sweeping through college campuses has been met with unconcealed support by Democrats, rather than outright condemnation. This unsettling trend witnessed a surge in the wake of the devastating events of October 7, 2023. Subsequently, chants advocating for a second intifada have filled the air, not just on campuses, but during countless marches in metropolitan cities such as New York and Washington, D.C. Activists displaying anti-American sentiments have seized these events as platforms to ostentatiously wave their Hamas flags.
Unfortunately, these actions have fueled violent incidents. Recently, an alarming event unfolded in the heart of the nation’s capital. Preparing for their impending engagement, a Jewish-American woman, Sarah Milgrim, and a German Christian man, Yaron Lischinsky, were subjected to a horrifying assault, as a radical leftist targeted them for their supposed role in ‘oppressing Palestine.’
The assailant didn’t stop to reason, but resorted to homicidal violence in an act of eye-catching brutality. As Sarah tried to flee the horrifying scene, crawling away in enormous pain, she was shot in the back—a heinous execution in broad daylight. The following weekend, a separate incident involving Mohamed Soliman, an undocumented Egyptian national, unfolded in Boulder, Colorado.
Soliman, despite being an illegal immigrant, dared to unleash violence on unsuspecting Americans while they were peacefully asserting their First Amendment rights during a march downtown. In a firm response to the incident, the Trump administration was swift in their pursuit of justice. The Department of Justice acted without delay, charging Soliman with a federal hate crime, ensuring his remand in local police custody.
Furthering the administration’s stern action, the Department of Homeland Security prioritized the apprehension of Soliman’s family members, all of whom were residing in the country unlawfully, opening the way for their speedy deportation. Unfortunately, the reaction from left-leaning parties and media houses was neither unified nor logical, expressed instead through misplaced sympathy.
The narrative presented by media outlets like USA Today strayed from the facts. The key information about the Soliman family’s illegal visa status and the patriarch’s violent actions were conveniently downplayed. Commiserations for the wrong parties only highlighted an arguably flawed perspective.
Adding to the media bias, a federal judge further complicated matters by prohibiting the proposed deportations. Some have dubbed this reaction as hasty or imprudent. However, it is important to remember that the deportation was proposed as a reaction to severe crimes — namely, attempted murder and illicit visa overstays. It was intended to protect the nation from pervasive anti-Western ideologies.
These groups should perhaps evoke concern and precaution from Americans, rather than unfounded sympathy. An argument can be made that citizens themselves should be seeking protection from such threats represented by the likes of Soliman and his kin. Current political leaders should not confuse victims for assailants.
On October 7, the tragedy of forty-five Americans being lost to Hamas terrorism unfolded. It is painfully apparent that Western sympathizers of these outfits remain unwilling to make any significant efforts to prevent further atrocities on our home soil.
The distinct difference in leadership styles is glaring when comparing the Democrats’ lax approach and the Trump officials’ decisive actions. The latter are resolute in their determination to end terrorism, unlike their political counterparts who seem content with playing the odds.
